Adopting a dog means changing a homeless animal’s whole world. Apart from saving a life, adopting means giving the dog an opportunity to experience a better life and earn a best friend. Honestly, it’s an exciting experience for both the animal and human.
When Rescátame Foundation learned that one of their dogs was picked for adoption, they got pretty excited.
They gave 3-month-old Vicente a bath and dressed him up for his big day. They decided to make him wear a cute tuxedo to make him look extra perfect on his adoption day.
Unfortunately, the poor pup got stood up.
The guy who was supposed to pick him up never arrived. He only called to say he’s canceling the adoption.
The shelter said:
“We have an adoption process with a form and the guy who wanted to adopt him applied and passed all of our requirements. He even went to our shelter and picked Vicente out of his brothers and sisters. He supposedly would pick up Vicente for adoption on the 9th to take him home.”
It was still a blessing.
What happened was still a good thing. The foundation was able to learn that the guy can’t be trusted when it comes to taking care of animals. They are very clear in telling people that adopting a dog is a forever commitment. Animals aren’t things you can just set aside or dispose of when you no longer find them convenient to have. They have lives and the have the right to be treated with respect.
To make sure the poor pup gets adopted, they shared his story on Facebook.
Their post easily went viral. In fact, it received about 3,000 shares and tons of requests to adopt the cute little guy.
Like most shelters, Rescátame Foundation is strict with their adoption process.
They said:
“Then we are asked why we are so rigid with the process, for that reason! Because we don’t want to have the slightest doubt that our furry ones will be in excellent hands for the rest of their lives. If you want to adopt, remember that it is a commitment forever—animals are not things you can have when you feel like having a dog.”
The group’s effort didn’t go to waste.
Soon after their post went viral, they were able to find a family for Vicente. They posted a picture of his new family along with this caption:
“Thanks to all interested people—we never thought that your story would get that far. We want to tell you that Vicente has already been adopted by a beautiful family.”
A lot of people felt happy for Vicente. He’s still such a young puppy and he’s got a great life ahead of him. His new family will surely shower him with lots of love and tons of cuddles.
Their mission isn’t over.
Even though they were able to find a home for Vicente, the shelter still has about 40 more animals looking for new homes. Those animals are seriously in need of loving families that will take care of them for the rest of their lives. Hopefully, Vicente’s story inspires people to step up and give the animals another opportunity to have a good life.
