Our dogs love us so much that they will lay down their lives for us. Paula Godwin’s puppy did just that but thankfully escaped a battle with a dangerous snake with his life.
Godwin woke up for her morning walk super early on June 29.
She took her golden retriever puppy Todd along with her as he was the only one who was up for a hike that early in the morning in Anthem, Arizona.
“Nobody wanted to come with me — it’s too early!” she said in a Facebook Live video. “Look how cute Todd is in his little harness!”
Not only is her puppy cute but he’s quite the protector.
Godwin was walking downhill when she almost stepped on a venomous snake.
But Todd wasn’t about to let that happen.
He jumped right in front of the snake and saved Godwin from being bitten.
“So this morning was up bright and early to go on a hike on 7 th street carefree. It was a beautiful morning but as we were walking down the hill I literally almost stepped on a mf rattlesnake. But my hero of a puppy Todd saved me,” she wrote on Facebook.
“He jumped right in front of my leg were I surely would have got bit. This is what a hero looks like. Please say a little prayer for my sweet hero,”
Todd got bit in the face by the rattlesnake. Godwin got away uninjured.
Todd sustained quite the wound. He started crying loudly in pain and his face swelled up.
Godwin immediately took Todd to get some medical attention at the local animal hospital within a few minutes.
They gave him some antivenom and monitored him for the rest of the day.
Poor Todd looks completely deformed and unrecognizable but he’s doing much better.
“Todd’s doing so well he is a wonder to me how he is healing. Just a thank you to all the support Your kindness and support is truly a blessing,” Godwin said.
He still has a nasty black gash on his face but the swelling has gone down considerably.
“My sweet Todd for sure is my hero,” Godwin said. “He is recovering so well. I feel I have to say that the man upstairs surely is watching out for me, too.”
