The National Mill Dog Rescue finds dogs that are suffering in puppy mills and other harmful situations and rescues them.
The puppies are then found loving homes where they can live out the rest of their days in happiness and joy.
The rescue was founded in 2007 and is based in Colorado Springs.
In 2020, the organization rescued beautiful dogs from a puppy mill, and the video of the aftermath of their rescue ended up going viral.
That’s because the reaction of these puppies knowing that they were finally in a safe and loving place was just too precious.
The first things these dogs are given when they arrive home into safety are food and water.
And you could tell that these dogs weren’t even accustomed to that.
When the first dog walks into the room, she gives the bowl of water a sniff.
She’s a little suspicious and is looking around and observing everything with her nose.
The second dog does the same and then discovers a blanket left out for her.
“One of the very first things our dogs are given upon arrival besides food and water is a blanket. Many times the dogs aren’t even quite sure what to do with it because it’s likely that many of them have never had a blanket before. But it doesn’t take long for them to find comfort and joy in this soft piece of love,” the video’s caption reads.
The dog pokes around the bed and hops on it and looks like it’s going to open up to being cozy.
But most of the dogs kind of paw at it for a while.
One dog in the video starts getting really excited and starts biting at the blanket and hopping around.
She looks like she is loving how soft it is.
Eventually, the dogs loosen up and decide to relax a big and lay down in their new fuzzy blankets.
And they sure look happy when they finally do.
“This is just the beginning, pups. Everything looks up from here!” the caption reads.
According to their website, many of the rescue dogs were used for breeding and are bred over and over again to continue the cruel money-making scheme.
“National Mill Dog Rescue was established in February 2007, in honor of a forgiving little Italian Greyhound named Lily. Theresa Strader, NMDR’s Founder, rescued Lily from a dog auction in Missouri. Prior to that day, Lily had spent the first seven years of her life as a commercial breeding dog, a puppy mill mom. Determined that her years of living in misery would not be in vain, Theresa started NMDR, giving a voice to mill dogs across the country,” their About page reads.
The video of the puppies getting cozy with their new blankets quickly went viral. Everyone loved seeing the dogs finally experience comfort.
“This may be the 1st time in their lives that these pups are actually going to get good night sleeps on dog beds and not in cages or on hard surfaces,” wrote one YouTuber.
“They are safe forever,” said another.
