There is a $5,000 reward to help find the person that horrifically disfigured a 3-month-old puppy in Oklahoma City. Please be aware that the images below are disturbing.
A puppy named Rocky is now safe and with his new foster family after being found wandering the streets of Oklahoma City. The months old puppy’s ears had been cut off near the scalp. It was a heartbreaking sight for those that found him.
Kaylee Doonkeen was sleeping in her home the night before Thanksgiving when she and her husband were woken up by tiny little cries. At first, Doonkeen wasn’t quite sure what she was seeing when she went outside and saw the puppy.
At first, Doonkeen thought that the small puppy’s ears were just folded back, but upon closer inspection — her heart sank.
“It looks like they were torturing this dog,” Doonkeen told KFOR.
Doonkeen immediately ran inside to call Animal Welfare; the poor dog needed medical assistance immediately because he had two large open wounds on his head. After being treated, Rocky is staying at the vet clinic to make sure the tiny dog doesn’t develop an infection.
“Our vet seems to think he’s going to be fine,” said Animal Welfare superintendent Jon Gary. “He’ll never have ears. Eventually, the fur will kind of grow over it, but it didn’t affect his hearing.”
Gary had seen cases of animal cruelty in the area before, but nothing had been quite as severe as Rocky’s case.
“We’ve had some cruelty cases where the dog had a bad cropping of their ears but, in this case, someone intentionally removed the entire ear, and we typically don’t see something like that,” Gary said.
Amazingly, despite all of the monstrosities that Rocky has witnessed and the trauma that he’s endured, the little dog was still has friendly and loving as ever. Staff at the clinic said that all he wants to do is play, snuggle, and be a normal puppy.
Now, there is an effort to locate the person who committed such a horrific act. However, it’s about so much more than charging them with a felony.
“There’s definitely a link between animal cruelty, and domestic violence and domestic abuse,” Gary said. “And, so, this is a bigger picture than people realize, and it’s really important that we do our jobs to try and determine who may have done this.”
It will be a while before Rocky is well enough to be adopted; if you’d like to donate to his medical funds, you can do so through the Animal Welfare Angel Fund. There is now a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction for the person/persons responsible.
