We all get excited about our food! Just imagine the days when we leave our favorite snack in the fridge to eat later. We would always think about it on the way home, and when we finally get our hands on it at the end of the day, we become incredibly ecstatic. This puppy feels the same way about his food, and he has a hilarious way of showing it.

A little Boston Terrier puppy probably smelled the hunger-inducing aroma that his mom was cooking and he could not wait to get his paws on it. When his mom was done making his meal, the bowlful of food was placed on top of the dinner table and then his mom immediately put him up next to it. Seeing the delicious food, the puppy just could not contain himself anymore that he went and dug in. However, as he was eating, his parents noticed that his hind legs rose all the while he was chomping on his food. It does look silly, and so the fur-parents decided to record the whole thing with their camera.

In fact, the puppy is unaware of it as he is simply too drawn into eating the food that his mom made him. Little by little his small legs go off the surface then go back there again. The next time, they rise a little higher than before. His mom just could not stop laughing in awe in the background as she witnesses this hilarious phenomenon.
The third time the puppy did it, the mom gave off a big “Whoops!” as he just went into a handstand and tumbled into his own food. They coaxed the puppy back into position and let it finish eating his delicious food.

We have seen a lot of these on the internet, where puppies are shown doing handstands while eating. Is it something they intentionally just do when they eat? Well, apparently, it is not but there is an explanation on why you could somehow see them do it. In a specific Dodo article, they have mentioned Stephen Zawistowski, an animal behaviorist and science advisor at the ASPCA, explaining this very behavior.
According to him, it is mainly about their physique, with their heads larger in comparison to the rest of their body. That said, when they contract or tense their muscles while feeling excitement, they might unknowingly raise their legs and down, like an adorable seesaw. As these puppies just have no control over it, the whole thing falls to being only accidental.
Can adult dogs do it too?
It does not happen too much with dogs since their bones and muscles have grown up as they should be, and there is little to no chance that this situation happens to them again. However, if you see some dogs doing handstands while eating, it is likely possible that it is some sort of habit or a trick taught to them by their owners.
