There’s not much worse than seeing a sick puppy, so when you see a puppy like this one who was thought to be terminal, bounce back, it instantly warms your heart. This tiny pooch had the help of a motherly Great Dane, a lot of love, and a “big dog” attitude.

They didn’t think this 1-pound Frenchie puppy would make it until a loving Great Dane took on the role of his surrogate mother.
When Frenchie puppy, Levi, came to this shelter he was smaller than an 8-week-0ld kitten at just 1.5 lbs, and it was unknown whether he had any chance at survival.
That’s when he met 125lb Shelby, a Great Dane with a whole lot of love to give.
Right from the start, Shelby was drawn to tiny Levi, treating him like one of her own.
Shelby began teaching little Levi all the social skills he would need to make it in the world.
The patient Great Dane made it a point to guide Levi, teaching him how to interact and play with other dogs. Even when Levi would play “bitey face” with the skin on Shelby’s face, she would just gently nudge him off once in a while to get a break.
Slowly but surely, Levi began coming around, and that sickly 1.5-pound dog that first came to them began transforming into a little bruiser.
After some time with Shelby, Levi’s health was restored and soon he would have to split from his new bestie.
The little survivor bounced back, morphing into a healthy puppy who gets excited about everything. Now, it was time for him to get excited for his new forever home.
Levi was adopted by a home that already had two pit bulls, and thanks to Shelby, the transition couldn’t have gone any smoother. When describing the puppy’s personality, his new owner said:
“He’s got a really big dog personality, and he’s not intimidated…” She went on to say: “I think he brought a whole new perspective into our house, just with his tenacity and positive attitude. It’s hard to even describe how excited he is for everything.”

In a perfect world, Levi and Shelby would have lived out their days together living happily ever after. In the real world, it was time for Levi to move on to his new parents and his two new siblings
He clearly loves his new home, but that doesn’t mean he’s forgotten about the surrogate mom who nursed him back to health.
The mother-son friendship between the two old friends wasn’t going anywhere, and so their owners had a surprise reunion in store
They decided it would be wonderful to be able to give Levi and Shelby a reunion, and Levi couldn’t have been more excited. In the video, the mischievous little guy ripped up an entire roll of toilet paper in anticipation of the big day.
Finally, it was time for the two friends to be together again, and when the big day came, it was like they hadn’t even been apart for more than a minute…
