When Nubby was born in 2017, he was weak and tiny. His mother didn’t outright reject him, but he was too weak to get past his other puppy siblings. Because of that, he couldn’t eat. The dogs’ vet didn’t think Nubby would make it.

Then, a woman named Lou Robinson heard about Nubby. She quickly said that she would take him in.

Lou and her husband Mark run the animal rescue organization Warriors Educate About Rescue. This organization teaches kids about how to compassionately care for animals. In addition, Lou and Mark are frequent dog foster parents. Still, Nubby was the most challenging dog they ever took in.

Lou and Mark did tons of research about how to care for little Nubby. They learned he would have to be bottle-fed at an incline to prevent the milk from going into his lungs and causing pneumonia.

Nubby quickly bonded with his new parents. He became particularly close with Mark—he loved sleeping on his dad’s shoulder!

“Day three came and went, day seven, day 10, day 16 and Nubby thrived. He thrived!” Lou told The Dodo. “His eyes opened, his ears developed, he found his sounds, smells and voice.”

Unfortunately, when he was three weeks old, Nubby’s health took a turn for the worse. Even though Lou and Mark were very careful, the poor dog still got pneumonia. In addition, he also had an abnormality in his esophagus, which caused him to choke on his milk.

Nubby went into the ICU, and he almost lost his life. But the little puppy refused to give up, and after a few weeks, he was a healthy dog again!

Lou and Mark were so happy to have Nubby home, and they decided to officially adopt him. They realized they loved him too much to ever give him up.

Nubby is now two years old, and he’s doing well!

The pup has a wheelchair he uses to get around. He’s also great at hopping around his house. He often accompanies Lou when she goes to teach in classes—he loves kids more than anything, and he’s always so excited to meet them.

Nubby has also become a foster dad! In 2019, Lou and Mark brought in a litter of orphaned puppies, and Nubby helped them take care of them. He loved looking after the little animals.

Nubby has also gotten close with Lou and Mark’s granddaughter. He’s always so excited to see her when she comes to visit, and he makes sure to give her plenty of kisses.

Lou and Mark started an Instagram page for Nubby, and it quickly got over 50,000 followers. Everyone loves seeing Nubby’s adventures!
