Have you heard of Great Pyrenees? They’re an attractive dog breed known for their intelligence, coordination, and admirable working skills. At first glance, the first thing you’ll notice about this dog breed is its size and regal expression. There is just something undeniably elegant about its bearing and movement.
Great Pyrenees were bred centuries ago to serve as herding dogs for peasant shepherds in the Pyrenees Mountains. They did excellently as guard dogs for flocks, detering predators. Bold, patient, and resilient, Great Pyrenees were just made for cold weather.

To this day, the breed lives up to its reputation as a loyal, reliable, hardworking dog. Caitlyn Radel-Paaby and her family can surely attest to this.
They welcomed a Great Pyrenees puppy named Willow to their family and right off the bat knew that the dog was special.
Described as playful and skittish, Willow also happens to be quite attentive.
She does a stellar job of watching out for her human parents and their infant son. In fact, she proved herself a hero just recently.
It was the night before Thanksgiving when Caitlyn noticed something was up. Usually, Willow runs to greet her as soon as she walks through that door but that evening, no pup was around to welcome her home.
After finding her boyfriend and son playing downstairs, Caitlyn decided to look for Willow. The dog was inside the office, under the desk.
“She went under the desk and started acting really nervous and barking and wouldn’t come out. She even got a little defensive to get our attention and that’s when we noticed the outlet.”
But Caitlyn still couldn’t pinpoint exactly what the puppy wanted her to see.
It was only when she touched the wall and felt the warmth that she realized Willow had actually sniffed out a fire in the electrical outlet.
Immediately, Caitlyn and her boyfriend called the fire department.
“The fire department said if we hadn’t found it when we did our house would have gone up in flames overnight.”
It was the sweet pup’s sharp instincts and intelligence that saved their lives.
“She had never done anything like this and we were shocked. She is always making sure her human brother is safe and she clings to me like crazy and usually will alert if something is off but never anything serious until the outlet.”
That’s why the next day, the entire family knew just what to be grateful for as they gathered around the table for Thanksgiving – their hero, Willow.
Willow is proof of just how special dogs are.
They go beyond just being adorable companions who bring you happiness and keep you on your toes daily. That’s why families with dogs are lucky. They get to experience just how strong a dog’s love is and how loyal they truly are. And that is exactly why dogs deserve our undivided love and care for the short time they get to be with us in this world.
