Two puppies were rescued by good samaritans at a dog rescue shelter in Mladenovac, Serbia in 2018 after becoming trapped in a pipe.

And once the rescue video went viral (with over 7.5 million views), the shelter posted an update on the stranded puppies a few months later.

It was a rescue that brought tears to the eyes of many viewers.

The sound of fear

It’s unclear how it happened, but two fluffy, adorable puppies managed to find shelter in a storm pipe on the side of the road across the street from the shelter. The only problem was that they weren’t quite able to get themselves out.

So our video begins with the rescuers taking their car over to the site where they could hear their terrified yelps.

And once they arrive the noise is heartbreaking.

As a rescuer gets down into the ditch, he points his camera inside where we can see two puppies.

They look pretty clean and fluffy and like some sort of Golden Retriever or Golden Labrador mix. (It’s believed that they were dumped judging by their location near the shelter and the failure to find a mother nearby.)

Could someone really have abandoned these two on the side of the road?

It’s unthinkable – and yet it happens all the time all over the world.

The pups seem to be contemplating their situation now that a stranger has been added to the mix. Is he safe? Can they trust him? Do they really want to get out of this pipe?

They wait it out a bit while they stare back to assess the man.

He makes a noise to call them closer, but they edge away.

A two-person job

Another rescuer is on the scene as well and inspects the situation. The puppies can’t be lured out, so it’s going to have to be a team effort with a person at each end of the pipe.

Finally, the rescuer in the turquoise hoodie realizes there’s no other way to get them out other than reaching in there any plucking them free by hand.

And it takes quite some effort!

Freedom!

Finally, one puppy seems ready to come out and makes it a little easier.

It all happens so fast that it’s hard to see how the rescuer manages to suddenly end up with BOTH squealing puppies.

And while it might sound like it hurts, they’re undoubtedly just scared.

As soon as the furballs realize they’re free and safe, they stop yelping and look pretty content (if a little camera shy) in the arms of their rescuer.

They even get some love in the form of nuzzles to make them feel safe and secure for their trip back to the shelter.

And just look at these two! They’re adorable and content (though they may just be a little exhausted too) as they sit patiently in a crate in the back of the car.

Pupdate

The puppies were taken to a foster home once they were all checked out and the rescue posted an update 50 days later to show people how they were doing.

The puppies were 4 months old at this point.

And they look pretty content!

It’s unclear if the fluffy sisters became a bonded pair (siblings often do better when separated).

But they look pretty cozy together in the arms of their rescuer. The reunion looked like a happy one!

The shelter posted the videos to raise funds for their care and in the hopes of finding them a forever home.

And something tells us it wasn’t hard to do!

While they remained a bit camera shy, it was clear they were getting lots of love.

We don’t know the end of their story, but here’s hoping they got their happy endings and their fur-ever homes!
