Andrei Matei was driving home one afternoon after visiting his girlfriend. It was a drive he’d done many times before, but the familiar drive took a surprising twist when a small animal dashed in front of his car. Matei immediately hit the brakes to avoid hitting the animal. He glanced over to the side of the road and saw two more animals running around.
When he got closer, he finally realized what the animals were: three little puppies!
“I immediately braked and stopped the car, and started going backwards,” Matei told The Dodo. “I went out of the car and there were three puppies, jumping on my leg and very happy. They did not have any idea that they were one inch close to death.”
Matei knew he couldn’t just leave the defenseless puppies on the side of the road, but he wasn’t sure what to do with them.
He posted on Facebook, asking for advice. His friend recommended that he call his neighbor Aura Vasile, who had experience with dogs. Matei called Vasile, and she agreed to meet him at a local veterinarian’s office. Matei put the puppies in his backseat, and they quickly fell asleep.
Soon, Matei and Vasile arrived at the veterinarian’s office, where the puppies got a thorough check-up. The vet said that they were around four to five weeks old. They all had fleas, but besides that, they were in good health. Because of that, the vet said the puppies were most likely abandoned by their former owner. Even though they were abandoned, the puppies were still happy and friendly, and they gave each new person they met tons of kisses.
Once the check-up was done, Vasile took the puppies home with her. She said she would find permanent homes for them.
“I left after with her promise that all the pups will be fine and that she will take care finding them new homes,” Matei said. “I checked after one week on her Facebook page and all the pups were with their new families, safe and happy.”
Matei did a great job looking after these little puppies who had no one else in the world. Thanks to him and Vasile, they now all have wonderful forever homes!
