Animals love a good ol’ petting from their owners. Though there are different ways of showing affection to your animals, petting them is easily one of the best ways there is.
A puppy’s introduction to belly rubs.
The owner of the YouTube channel Life with Labradors uploaded a video of his five-week-old puppies. As the puppies were already getting bigger and a lot more playful, the owner thought that it was a good idea to introduce them to their first belly rubs.
“I think you need a good old belly rub,” the owner told one of his feisty little puppies. “I think that would calm you down.”
One by one, he rolled them over and gave them a newfound experience.
He rolled the first pup to his back and exposed its belly. The owner then proceeded to put his fingers on the pup’s tummy and started scratching it. As it was the pup’s first time, the experience was both confusing and exciting for him, and he started kicking the air rapidly. Eventually, the pup stopped kicking and just gave in to the soothing touch of his owner.
They almost all have the same reactions to the belly rub.
To be fair to the other pups, the owner moved from one to the other to give them their belly rubs. They all have the same awkward reaction after being flipped and scratched on their tummies since the experience was new to them.
They all reacted differently after a few seconds of having their bellies rubbed. Some pups were quick to adapt to the scratches, and they calmed down and snoozed off afterward. The other pups seemed to be more confused than soothed. It is funny to see their face as if they were saying, “I just want to play, why do you do this hooman?”
The video reached almost half a million views after the owner uploaded the video on May 12, 2020. These puppies definitely made everyone smile.
Why dogs fancy a great belly rubbing.
Dogs crave plenty of physical interaction with their humans. That is why when they play with you, it involves a lot of cuddling and belly rubbing. According to some experts, they have neurons in their brains that light up when their fur is being caressed.
On the other hand, it is not a good idea to tummy rub a cat. It is not that they despise it — it is just that their bellies are easy to over-stimulate, causing them to claw your hands in the process.
Belly rubs often give the dogs a calming effect.
An article from How Stuff Works explains that petting dogs’ tummy could lower their heart rate and blood pressure. Also, it heightens both the owner and the pet’s oxytocin levels — the chemical which is also known as the “love chemical.” However, dogs only let you enjoy rubbing their tummies once you have earned their trust, and if your bond with them is already strong enough.
Therefore, if your dog suddenly rolls on his back, with its tongue hanging out, then it is telling you to give them a belly rub. Soon enough these cute puppies in the video will learn how to ask their owners for one.
