Do you remember the first time you got behind the wheel? How large and daunting the car seemed, and how it seemed to move at lightning speed even though you were just barely pressing your foot on the gas and hitting maybe 5-10mph?
That’s how it felt for me, but understandably so. Cars are heavy and powerful vehicles. The loud noise of an engine turning can be startling, and for some, being the passenger in a speeding car can quickly get nerve wracking.
But that’s from a human perspective, so one can only wonder what our four-legged friends think of cars – especially since most are much smaller than humans are.
Sure, some dogs love cars and will race in the back seat to go for a ride. But not every dog is like that, as seen in the video below.
Adam Douglas was out on a car ride in his home country Ireland with his best fur pal Thomas. When Adam encountered bumpy roads on his drive, he noticed Thomas acting strangely.
Whenever Adam hit the gas pedal, Thomas would paw at his arm until Adam held his hand.
Aside from a little fear in driving, Thomas is a regular ol’ cocker spaniel. However, Adam does a great job tending to Thomas as he makes sure the pup is sitting securely by being buckled in with his harness like a seat belt.
He even makes sure to hold Thomas’s hand when the little guy gets scared from the car being in motion.
It’s adorable to watch. Adam jokingly laughs at Thomas’s neediness, but he does comfort him when asked.
It’s like when people are afraid of flying in airplanes and insist on grabbing the arm rest or another person’s hand to have some sense of grounding, except this time it’s a car and a very cute cocker spaniel who wants a little assurance from his pal.
For any of you who may be questioning the safety of Adam’s driving during his recording, he wrote this statement:
“Hi,
a lot of you seem to be concerned about how I took the video. I put my phone in an iPhone holder that I use in my car for hands free calls. Its attached to the driver side door. The phone fell out once because I was on a back road which was quite bumpy. Tommy is also buckled in via his harness so hes safe as a house. I appreciate all the concerns, especially about Tommy being buckled in because that’s important, but i assure you all it was perfectly safe, i wouldn’t have done it otherwise.
You should all re-watch the video safe in the knowledge that me, Tom and the roads of Ireland are safe as ever :)”
The two look pretty safe to me!
