In June 2019, a church in Brazil had a surprising visitor: a friendly and playful dog!
The pup wandered into Nossa Senhora das Dores parish and walked around the pews. Then, he decided to hang out with the church’s priest, Father José Geraldo Sobreira. The pup plopped down by the priest’s feet and started playing with his robes. Father Sobreira took the whole thing in stride!
Sobreira let the pup play with his robes, and he laughed as the dog flopped around on his back.
The priest made sure to give the dog plenty of belly rubs. He also cracked up when the dog decided to start licking his feet. Sobreira had a huge smile on his face throughout the whole ceremony because of his little visitor.
Sobreira also let the dog hang out with him when he was doing his sermon. The pup smiled as the priest pet him—he seemed to love getting to hang out with his new best buddy!
A member of the church took a video of Sobreira and the dog and shared it on Facebook. The video quickly went viral, receiving over six million views.
Everybody who saw the video loved how playful the pup was. One commenter called the dog “an angel with four paws.”
Many other people praised Sobreira for how he handled the pup. Everyone loved the way Sobreira let the dog hang out with him.
“Beautiful father! I loved your gesture!” one commenter wrote of Sobreira. “Each day that passes I realize animals are in this world to teach us what pure love is, and that all humans should spread it.”
Another commenter said that this video showed Father Sobreira has a huge heart!
“You know a man’s heart by the way he treats animals,” the commenter wrote.
Since the dog is wearing a collar, it seems like he has an owner. Hopefully, the pup safely made it back home after his church adventures!
This isn’t the first time a dog in Brazil has gone viral for crashing an official ceremony.
In 2017, a stray dog in Brazil went viral after he crashed a couple’s wedding. Then, the pup took a nap on the bride’s veil before running off into the night. This story ended up having a beautiful happy ending—the couple tracked down the dog and adopted him. They named him Snoop!
When a dog crashed Father Sobreira’s mass services, he didn’t try to shoo the dog away. Instead, he included the pup in his service in a beautiful, heartwarming way. If you’d like to see the video of Father Sobreira and his dog friend, check it out below.
