Having to housebreak a puppy could be a serious nightmare. They pee everywhere, they poop everywhere and before you know it, your house is a smelly stained mess.

But there is hope, even if your dog is no longer a puppy. You can even do it in seven days.

Here’s are six steps to training your dog in seven days:

Step 1) Get Out There Early

Make sure you start each day by walking your dog at 7 a.m. so it can go to the bathroom. Stay outside for as long as it takes until they go. Then make sure to play with your pup until about 8 a.m.

Step 2) Time to Eat

Let them have something to eat and drink by 8 a.m. If your dog seems like they need to go to the bathroom make sure you take them outside right away. Some animals have to go after they eat or drink. Wait a half hour, at 8:30 a.m. and take them outside.

Step 3) Closed Room Or Crate Train

Let the dog play in a small, closed in room, like a kitchen. Make sure you keep an eye on your dog to see if they have to go to the bathroom or not. If you’re crate training, put the dog in the crate from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Step 4) Time To Eat Again

Let the puppy out of the crate or end free time at 12:30. Give the dog some food and water. Wait a half hour to take the dog outside in case they have to go to the bathroom again. Give them a half hour of indoor play time before they go back in the crate.

Step 5) Final Feeding

Let the dog eat for the last time of the night at 6 p.m. Take the dog outside again within a half hour to walk or play outside and explore. The dog can roam around the house or go back into the crate after that.

Get your dog a little more water at 8 p.m. but take it away after 8:15. Take your dog out within a half hour after they drink more water. Let them play a little and have time in the crate. Make sure you take the dog out once before by 11 p.m. and keep them in the crate overnight to prevent accidents.

Repeat this for seven days until your dog’s routine is established.
