Before he fights crime...he just needs a little love!

At some point in most people’s lives there will come a time when, even if they love their job, they just do not want to go to work.

They need a little bit of extra motivation in order to get up and go.

And this is true not just for humans, but for working animals too.

Just ask police K9 Jango Fett.

Jango and his human handler, Office Ryan Costin, have worked together for the Anne Arundel County Sheriffs’ office for 10 years.

Jango has hundreds of hours of training under his collar and is an expert drug sniffer, rescue locator, and attack dog.

It was a Tuesday morning when the pair were about to head off to work when Jango decided he needed a little extra motivation that day.

Just a few steps away from the open door of his police vehicle, Jango plopped down in the grass and refused to get up again.

Ryan tried everything he could think of to get the dog to move but nothing he tried worked.

He texted his wife who was still inside the house and let her know of the dogs antics; Cassie Costin grabbed her phone and filmed the interaction from the window.

“My poor husband,” Cassie can be heard saying, “trying to go to work and Jango just lays flat on the ground. And it’s only Tuesday!” she adds with a chuckle.

Eventually Ryan realized that all the pup wanted was a little extra love.

He reached down and pet the dog as Jango rolled onto his back so he could get belly scratches.

After a few moments of extra attention from Ryan, Jango leapt to his feet and happily jumped into the car ready to go to work.

“He loves work,” Ryan said, “I mean, he lives for work.”

However, while Jango is a highly trained and reliable police K9, at home he’s just the family dog.

“He’s my best bud,” Ryan continued, “everywhere I go at he’s with me.”

Jango is a Belgian Malinois, a breed known for their intelligence, trainability, and eagerness to please.

Belgian Malinois are often police K9’s due to their natures, but they are also playful, energetic, and good with children.

They are also very good with other animals, which is good as the Anne Arundel K9 unit employs multiple dogs, each with their own special jobs.

Jango is now over 10 years old meaning he will soon retire and can live out the rest of his life as the Costin family pet.

While switching from being a serious police dog, to a more relaxed house pet will most likely be a big change for the pooch, he’ll definitely grow into.

This brave dog deserves a simple and relaxed retirement.
