What do you do after waking up in the morning?
Most of us would fix ourselves and head to the kitchen to get a cup of coffee or tea. Without this hot drink, we won’t be able to start our day.
It energizes us, warms our stomachs, and wakes our bodies.
Well, we’re not alone.
Jake, 20 years old, is like most of us. This lad refuses to get out of bed and work until they serve him his morning tea.
Oh, Jake is one of the twelve horses under the police’s mounted section.
Did you know that before being accepted as a police horse, one has to possess certain types of characteristics?
Jake has them. All of them.
A police horse’s job description is not a joke. They should be healthy with a minimum of 16.2 hh.
They should have a kind temperament and should not show stress when they are in enormous crowds.
Of course, these horses should be strong and have good muscle mass, should they encounter a situation where there is conflict.
But they also have their quirks.
These horses are treasured by their team.
The Merseyside Police had been working with Jake for around 15 years. He is friends with all his teammates. In fact, he even picked up some of their routines.
Like most of his comrades, Jake has picked up a love of sweet tea.
At first, Jake would stick his tongue on his rider’s mug every morning. They decided it was time for Jake to have his own.
Since that day, Jake has become a part of the Merseyside Police Mounted Section’s morning tea.
Now, he insists on it.
This horse knows he won’t be productive without it, so every day, he waits for his beloved sweet tea.
After a while, they noticed Jake won’t even stand up without drinking his tea first. So the officers bring Jake his tea to him in his stable.
He also has a particular preference.
Jake only wants his tea warm, so they add a little cold water. His tea has skimmed milk and two teaspoons of sugar.
Talk about getting your daily dose of energy each day.
“I’d definitely describe Jake as a horse with a lot of character,” said section manager and trainer Lindsey Gaven to Daily Mail. “If you’re at the side of the stable and he sees you with a mug in your hand, you can guarantee he’ll trot over to try and steal a slurp.”

According to their website, Jake has been working for the police department since August 2004.
Even if he’s 20 years old, he would still bounce between fences and play with the recruits.
When it’s time to trim his fur, Jake would be upset.
