Officers from the NYPD Mounted Unit are used to people approaching to see if they can pet their horses. However, it’s probably not every day that a teeny-tiny Frenchie is the one wanting to say “hello!”
A New York City resident was finishing up his lunch break when an adorable scene caught his eye. There was a dog on the sidewalk, and it was actually trying to play with one of the police horses.
Luckily, the man managed to capture their heartwarming interaction on film.
In the video, a small group of passersby is captivated by an NYPD officer’s horse.
The cop kindly gives them a closer look, allowing the animal to hang its head over the fence. Yet, there’s one, in particular, who’s extra intrigued… It’s an itty-bitty French bulldog wearing a sweater and a bow tie!
Despite being a fraction of its size – the dog isn’t afraid of the horse.
She begins hopping around as if asking the gentle giant, “Wanna play? Wanna play?” Unfortunately, the horse has “Mom” on its back, and there’s still work to do… But that doesn’t mean they can’t have a little fun!
Get ready to say, “Aww.”
The police horse reaches its head down to the excited pooch, and they give each other some sniffs. While they may look like an unlikely duo, it’s as if they’re starting a path to friendship.
If only there wasn’t a fence between them.
The Frenchie wants to play with her new buddy so badly she can’t sit still. She continues jumping around, hoping it will join her in the fun. The horse just watches the dog with loving eyes.
A YouTube user commented:
“All I could think of was this little dog talking to this horse “Hey! HEY!! Giant dog! Leave your human and come play with me! We will play the chase and the tag and shall jump and run and be very merry!”
At one point, a little girl takes a turn petting the horse…
But the Frenchie isn’t having it.
She jumps up on the girl as if saying, “Hey, that’s MY friend. Find your own!”
The video’s been viewed over 5.6 million times since it was posted.
YouTube user, ubermongolianbeef, is the one who recorded the sweet interaction. He wrote:
“I saw this on my walk back to the office from lunch. It was a nice contrast to the perception everyone has of the NYPD in the area due to the Occupy Wall Street camp nearby.”
Eventually, the horse has to get back to its duties.
The NYPD Mounted Unit began patrolling the city streets in 1858. They’re known as “10 Foot Cops,” and their height gives them the advantage of being able to see far!
But even though they might look really big – people often go up to the officers and their horses. Officer Pamela Bond told AMNY:
“We’re very approachable. It helps with the community policing a lot.”
If you’re in need of a heaping dose of cuteness, you’ve come to the right place. The following comment was left on YouTube:
“That is one of the cutest things I have ever seen!”
Another person wrote:
“I must admit I adore the frenchie’s little sweater. The way she dances around is so adorable.”
