When Finn the German Shepherd arrived on the Britain’s Got Talent stage with his police officer owner, the judges knew that they were in for a treat. Aside from being one of the most adorable-looking dogs ever, Finn also had a few tricks up his sleeve.

This clever pup was a bit of a magician – and not only that, but he had a truly heartwarming story to share with us all. Grab those tissues, because you’ll need them for this video!

The amazing audition was shared by Britain’s Got Talent on their YouTube channel with the caption:

“Dave and Finn’s audition was not only magical, but it also moved the audience, Judge and Ant & Dec to tears. Watch their audition featuring an incredible story of bravery and courage.”

The video has over 19.8 million views, and after watching the pair’s audition, it’s not hard to see why. For the first act, Dave asks one of the judges, David, to write the word of any object onto a piece of paper. He tells him to hold the paper close to his chest so no one can see it and then asks him to step up to the stage and show Finn the word.

When David turns his paper around to show Finn, Dave covers his eyes with his hands and turns away so that there’s absolutely no chance of him peeking! David then returns to his seat, still holding the piece of paper close to his chest.

Now comes the exciting part. Dave asks Finn to tell him what David’s word was, and he bends down and holds his ear to the clever pup as if listening for a response. He then stands up and addresses David:

“David, your word is… Table.”

As David holds up his piece of paper to confirm that his word was indeed ‘table’, the whole room erupts into cheers. How did Finn communicate to Dave what the word was? Can dogs actually read and speak? It’s fair to say that we’re totally mind-blown.

After this brilliant magic trick, Dave wants us to get to know a little more about Finn.

“Now everyone thinks their dog is amazing,” he says. “But Finn truly is.”

A slideshow then begins to play on the big screen, and by the time it’s finished, there isn’t a dry eye left in the room.

Written on the screen, are the words:

“Finn may be a mind reader, but my connection with him goes far deeper. I am a policeman, and Finn has been my partner in the force for seven years. In 2016, whilst on police duty, an offender went to stab me with a 10 inch knife. My life was in danger.

Finn bravely jumped in front of me and saved my life, while risking his own. He was left fighting for his life.”

The slideshow ends with:

“Seeing my best friend on the brink of death just broke my heart. Thanks to the amazing team of vets, Finns life was saved. My best friend was back.”

Finn watches the whole slideshow proudly, and at the end when everybody applauds him, he can’t take the big grin off his face! The judges are all looking very emotional, and we’re feeling a little weepy ourselves! It’s amazing how selfless and caring Finn is to have risked his own life for his human. Dogs really are a special kind of animal.

But the show isn’t over yet – Finn has one more trick for us! This time, the judge Simon is asked to randomly pick out a word from a notebook. He chooses the word, “heroic”- the perfect adjective for Finn.

“There’s no possible way I could have known what word you were going to pick,” Dave says. “But Finn did.”

He then explained that prior to the show, Finn had a word engraved onto the tag of his collar. “Now Simon, could you please have a look at the tag on Finn’s collar?”

Well would you look at that! The word, ‘Heroic’ is engraved onto Finn’s collar, clear as anything. How on earth did they pull that off?

What a talented pair. We hope these two made it all the way to the final! Watch the amazing video below.
