In early July 2019, a man was driving down the highway in Mocksville, North Carolina. Then, he hit some construction and got stuck in traffic. As he was sitting in his car, he looked to the side of the highway and saw a tiny kitten staring back at him. The little kitten was skinny, and her front right paw was crooked.
The man knew the kitten was at risk of getting hit by a car, and so he quickly grabbed her and pulled her into his car. Then, he drove her over to the closest police station.
The police officers quickly said they would look after the kitten, who they named Moxie. They took her to the vet, and they learned her leg wasn’t broken—she was born with a bent paw. The kitten didn’t seem to realize there was anything different about her paw!
“The vet feels VERY optimistic and we’ll be picking her up this afternoon. She received a clean bill of health and there were no broken bones: just a deformity. She was hungry/dirty but she’s going to be just fine! We will be fostering her back to health until we find a safe loving family for her,” the officers wrote on Facebook.
The officers brought Moxie back to the police station, where she got to meet the station’s resident cat, Sergeant Butters. Butters had wandered up to the police station in 2018, asking for help. The officers took the stray in and nursed him back to health.
The officers began looking for a foster home for Moxie. While they looked, she stayed at the police station. Moxie loved hanging out with the officers and Butters.
Moxie was particularly fond of Police Chief Reagan. She loved hanging on his desk and “helping” him with his work.
As Reagan spent more time with Moxie, he completely fell in love with her. He quickly decided that he didn’t want to give her up, and so he officially adopted her.
“Thank you to everyone who inquired about adopting Pawfficer Moxie. We couldn’t bear to see her go too far, so Chief Reagan & his family have adopted her into their home!”
Moxie quickly settled into her new home, and she got along well with her new dog siblings. She also began training to be a therapy cat at The Dragonfly House Children’s Advocacy Center. We’re sure Moxie is going to do a great job in her new role.
“Moxie is on snack duty this morning… when kids and families come in for services at The Dragonfly House they are sometimes at our office for 2-3 hours or more. We give them snacks and juice while with us,” Reagan wrote on Facebook.
