We came across the most adorable video of a dog’s sweet reaction to Mufasa’s death in The Lion King, and it really got us thinking about how caring our pets can be. There are certain moments that make us question just quite how much animals can process and understand, and this is one of them.
We’ve noticed our cat’s eyes move with the scene of TV before, but we always thought that their eyes were simply following the different colors and flashes. So this adorable video of a dog’s reaction to one of the saddest Disney scenes, like, ever, made us realize that maybe animals can understand more than we initially thought.
The sweet video was posted onto YouTube by Josh Myers with the caption:
‘So Hannah and I were watching the Lion King while Luna played wildly with her toys. But right as Mufasa falls to his death, she stops and turns to the TV to watch. To see her crying at the TV was the sweetest thing I think I’ve ever seen. She even lays down right after Simba lays with his dad….We don’t deserve dogs. 💚 4 months old and she’s already showing empathy.’
Little did Josh know that his four-month-old pup would instantly go viral!
The video built up over 13.8 million views as well as 234k likes and thousands of comments from people who were touched by Luna’s sweet reaction.
The video begins with Luna staring at the TV as if transfixed, whilst on the screen, we can see the heartbreaking scene in The Lion King where Simba approaches his dead dad (which still makes us cry to this day).
As Simba realizes that his dad isn’t coming back, he begins to cry, and Luna seems to understand the sadness in the scene.
The sweet pooch starts whining at the TV as if she’s crying along with Simba, and we have to admit that her reaction brought a tear to our eye! As Simba lays down with his dad, Luna also lays down as if she’s right there with Simba. It’s amazing that she’s mimicking his behavior and shows clear proof that she understands what’s happening in the movie.
We can’t get over how sweet this video is, and people took to the comments section to agree!
“When a dog can convey emotion from animation, you know the animators succeeded,” one user said.
Another added:
“This proves, without a doubt that dogs & other animals feel joy, sorrow, sadness, grief, happiness.”
Someone else added:
“It’s so crazy how he literally can understand everything going on in the movie. This definitely shows that communication has nothing to do with language. What a smart pup!”
We certainly believe that animals can understand emotions a lot better than we thought they could!
Another user pointed out that this sweet pup’s reaction goes against all the stigma many people have towards pit bulls being aggressive, saying:
“The sad thing is that Pit bulls get a lot of bad press. This is so beautiful, and it proves that if they are trained properly they can be as loving as any other breed.”
What a good point! If anyone can prove how gentle pit bulls are then Luna can. What a sweet dog with a precious heart! Watch the adorable video below.
