Dogs are protective of their humans by instinct, especially when it comes to children. We’ve seen stories of dogs standing guard of children in all number of situations, from name-calling bullies to dangerous roadside incidents.
One story of an incredible dog-assisted rescue begins with the incident every parent fears: a missing child.
Little Kh’amorion had managed to wander off when his parents’ backs were turned, and had escaped from his home in St Louis.
One woman, a neighbor of Kh’amorion’s anxious parents, left to walk her dog in the neighborhood, with no idea what the little boy was missing.
Little did she know that she would soon come across an incident that would cause her to switch gears and make a heroic move.
A little way into her walk, she found a group of residents who had spotted a little boy walking the streets in his pyjamas, wearing no shoes.
What was remarkable about the situation was that the little boy – determined to be Kh’amorion – was being shadowed by a large pitbull.
It was almost as if the pittie was standing guard over Kh’amorion, making sure he didn’t come to any harm.
The woman then took responsibility for Kh’amorion, making it her mission to reunite the child with his parents.
For hours on end, she walked up and down the streets of her neighborhood, speaking to homeowners about the incident and asking if anyone knew Kh’amorion. But no-one who answered their doors could put a name to the child.
Just when she was beginning to give up hope, a social media post of Kh’amorion that another neighbor had made caught the right attention.
Kh’amorion’s father noticed his son on the post, and was horrified to learn that he had somehow escaped. He sprang into action, rushing to collect his son from the neighbor who had taken him off the streets.
It’s not yet known how the little boy was able to escape from his home, but the neighbor was confident that he looked well-cared-for, aside from the fact that he wasn’t wearing any shoes.
All that mattered to the kindly neighbor who returned Kh’amorion was that he was back safe with his family. Speaking to Fox2 St. Louis, she said:
“It is important that we stick together, that we help each other, that we go back to the things that our grandparents and their community used to do.”
As for the pitbull who guarded over Kh’amorion, he was taken in by the police, after no rightful owner was found for him.
Little Kh’amorion had taken a shine to the dog, and apparently kept referring to him as “puppy” when he was rescued.
But, unfortunately for the little lad, it seems more likely that the police will be adopting the clever guard dog instead.
Thanks to the pittie’s protective nature, Kh’amorion remained safe and happy while out on his walk in the street.
It could have been an entirely different story if he was left all alone. With the pittie, he had his very own guard dog – even if he didn’t know it himself.
Do you believe that dogs have a sixth sense that lets them know when they need to look out for a human? The video below, which explains Kh’amorion’s story in more detail, should help you to make up your mind.
