Jacqueline’s pitbull Rey has always been her “ride-or-die” gal.
She could always be found by her mom’s side.
Especially, when mom became pregnant.

“My husband and I found out we were expecting our first child in October 2018. We continued on our merry way thinking everything was great. We had a pretty run-of-the-mill experience with our pregnancy up until we didn’t,” Jacqueline told The Dodo.

Jacqueline unfortunately ended up having a miscarriage.
Thankfully, she had Rey constantly by her side to console her and keep her going.
“I spent a lot of time in bed feeling very down. It’s funny because dogs don’t stop needing you, but they also don’t stop supporting you.”

“Rey still wanted to go out for her walk every day and for me, it was kind of motivation to get up and do something.”
At this point, Jacqueline was really counting on getting pregnant again. She had started to lose hope.

So, she was very surprised after taking a test in March 2020 and learning she was pregnant.
Jacqueline wasn’t sure who was more excited about the pregnancy: her or Rey.
The pitbull was obsessed with mom and her changing belly. This really helped mom to feel more confident about her pregnancy.

“Seeing her be that attached to my belly made me really hopeful. It took a while for me to get attached to my own pregnancy. It was really hard for me to trust that things were going to be OK,” Jacqueline explains.
Rey began cozying up to Jacqueline and her belly every chance she had.
“She would just shove her snout up into my belly and I’m like, ‘Ok I’m by you. I need to stay by you.’ She really just wanted to be involved in everything.”
The bigger mom’s belly got, the more Rey wanted to be close to mom.
According to Pedigree, a dog can sense when changes in a woman’s body chemistry change her scent.
They can also tell when mom’s belly is growing as well as changes in mood or behavior during pregnancy.
It’s not uncommon to see dogs be more affectionate and protective of their pregnant human moms.
Rey was overjoyed when her baby brother Maddox was finally born and liked to watch over him.
“She’ll sit by him anytime he is on her level she’s like, ‘OK, I got this,'” mom explains. “But seeing her be so close to him now is a really joyful experience.”
Jacqueline now gets to spend her days with the two loves of her life who are always by her side.
“Now, we have our son here for her to grow up with. And hes’ going to have his childhood really enhanced by having this really great dog by his side too,” Jacqueline says. “She came here to not only be unfortunately part of some of the lowest lows of our lives but also to really be here through some of the highest joys too.”
