Two-year-old pit bull Grace had a very tough start to life. The pit bull was used in a dogfighting ring. Then, once she had outgrown her use, she was left tied to a tree. Thankfully, someone found her and rescued her before it was too late.

Soon after that, a woman named Mindy Hayes and her husband saw Grace at the shelter and fell in love with her. She adopted the pup and brought her home.

Grace quickly settled into life at the Hayes’ house. She got along well with Hayes’ other dog, Sadie, and she loved her parents. Even though Grace had been through so much, she was still as sweet as can be!

In 2017, Hayes and her husband decided to bring home another furry pet: a Flemish giant rabbit named Sophie.

Hayes introduced Sophie to Grace and Sadie, hoping all the animals would get along. Sadie wasn’t too interested in the rabbit, but Grace immediately fell in love with her! Sophie loved Grace just as much, and the two quickly started spending all their time together.

“It was an instant connection,” Hayes told The Dodo. “They sniffed one another, and they just blossomed from there.”

Soon, Sophie and Grace became completely inseparable.

The two love curling up on the couch for naps together. They also enjoy grooming each other—Hayes shared an adorable video of their grooming routine on her Facebook page.

Sophie is now eleven months old, and she’s almost the same size as Grace when she’s stretched out. She’s also not done growing yet—adult Flemish giant rabbits can weigh up to 20 pounds!

Sophie also loves spending time with her parents—the rabbit is social and very friendly.

“Sophie loves to sit on the couch with my husband and I,” Hayes said. “She will sit on both our laps and lick our hands as we pet her. She comes to me when I call her and she follows us around the house. She is a very social and happy rabbit!”

Many people are shocked when they see how close Grace and Sophie are. They’re especially shocked since Grace is a pit bull.

Hayes hopes that Grace and Sophie’s relationship will help show people that pit bulls are friendly and sweet dogs. With the right socialization, pit bulls can get along with creatures of all shapes and sizes!

“Knowing where she came from and to see her be so loving to everyone, especially to a rabbit, is really spreading awareness to who these dogs really are,” Hayes said. “They are not bad dogs. She wants to be friends with everyone she meets.”
