When Gemma the Pit Bull was first introduced to her new human baby brother, it was love at first sight.

In fact, Mom Brianna found herself with her own little helper from the very day that the gentle pit bull set eyes on her baby brother, Elliott.

“From the moment that we brought him home from the hospital, she followed him everywhere,” Brianna recalled. “Those three or four years of his life, that was all she did.”

The pair did everything together, but then when Elliott turned four, a change of routine shook up their relationship.

It was time for Elliott to start at preschool- and suddenly, Gemma was going to be faced with long days away from her favorite human.

“When Elliott went to preschool, she was just mopey,” Brianna said. “While he was at school was when Gemma was the saddest. She would just lay on the couch all day looking out of the window.”

Gemma was a shadow of her former self, and Brianna wondered if there was anything she could do to help. Could a new foster kitten put a smile back on Gemma’s face?

The family fosters a kitten every kitten season, so when they brought their newest little ginger kitten called Boops home, their intention was purely to look after him until he had been found a permanent home.

But they certainly didn’t bank on the special relationship that was going to come out of it!

Boops was a little bit scared at first, and Gemma didn’t know what to make of the new addition to the family.

Despite the obvious size difference, as the pair grew more comfortable around each other, they began to play fight. Gemma would use her muzzle to gently push Boops to the floor- but the sassy little kitten would always hold his own!

He swiped at her face with his tiny paws and try to bite her with his baby teeth. He didn’t look fierce, but in his head, he was as mighty as a lion.

Gemma’s mom watched the pair’s play fighting sessions with interest. No kitten had ever wanted to play with Gemma before.

“She finally had a friend, she had a playmate that she could mess around with during the day,” Brianna said. “It was such a cool thing to see because we didn’t expect that.”

Not only do the pair play fight, but they’re also partial to the odd cuddle. They can often be found snuggled up together- with Gemma being the big spoon, obviously!

Boops was only a foster kitten, and the thought of him leaving the family’s home after creating such a special bond with Gemma was heartbreaking.

So the family made the decision to adopt Boops!

“Seeing the bond that they had, we couldn’t really take him away after that,” Brianna said.

Now that Boops is an official part of the family, Gemma is no longer sad or lonely when Elliott goes to preschool. She knows that he will be back in the afternoon- and in the meantime, she can have lots of fun with Boops.

Have you ever seen a bond as adorable as this one?
