The UPS Dogs Facebook page is a heartwarming corner of the internet that showcases the unique relationships formed between UPS drivers and the dogs they encounter on their daily routes.
They frequently bring along treats or toys for their canine friends.
These drivers, who usually follow the same routes every day, often develop special bonds with the dogs they meet.
Some of the bonds dogs develop with drivers run deep.
One such UPS driver, Katie Newhouser, found immense joy in interacting with the dogs on her route.
Among her furry friends, she developed a special bond with a large, endearing pit bull named Leo.
This bond was not just limited to Leo; Katie also grew close to Leo’s human mom, Tina.
Tina shared with Katie the story of how her son had found Leo when he was just a puppy.
Being so young and small, Tina had to bottle-feed him, and as a result, Leo saw Tina as his mother.
The bond they formed was extraordinary, and they were inseparable.
“I don’t think that dogs ever forget anyone who they have been that close to.”
Katie came across a heart-wrenching Facebook post that announced Tina’s passing.
The news devastated Katie, not only because she had lost a friend, but also because she was concerned about Leo’s future.
She reached out to Tina’s son, Cannon, to inquire if he would be taking Leo.
However, as an active-duty Marine, Cannon was unable to take Leo in.
Given the circumstances, Katie decided to adopt Leo.
She announced her decision in a touching post on the UPS Dogs Facebook page. “This is Leo, he would always start barking as I pulled into the condo comple.
He would always jump into my truck when I stopped.
His owner passed away and now he lives with me,” Katie wrote, sharing her new journey with Leo.
Katie already had three dogs at home, and initially, she was apprehensive about how they would react to Leo.
But to her relief, her dogs and Leo hit it off instantly.
“It was probably confusing for him at first, but he has adapted well,” Katie said.
“He and his brother Moose are inseparable. Bailey, his sister, has taken a while to come around, but they actually play now once Leo was introduced into the house, the whole vibe changed.”
Despite Leo’s immediate bond with Katie and her dogs, it took him some time to adjust to his new home.
He missed Tina terribly.
“Leo missed Tina when he first got here,” Katie shared. ”
He would whine at night before he would fall asleep.
It was heartbreaking, really.
He still does every once in a while. I know he misses her.”
While Leo will always hold a special place in his heart for Tina, he has found a loving home with Katie and his new siblings.
They shower him with love and affection, providing him with a wonderful place to call home.
Leo is a charming, friendly dog who always carries a big smile on his face.
