If Bentley were to win an award, he would win the award for “most likely to brighten your day.”

That’s why the staff at the Pennsylvania SPCA were so baffled as to why he was stuck in the shelter for so long.

This sweet-faced doggo spent a total of 1,076 days in the shelter. Bentley was found abandoned and left outside of the shelter.

He was very scared and shy when he first arrived at the PSPCA.

So, he got to live in the behavior office, which was cozy and intimate.

It helped Bentley ease into a home-like setting. Former PSPCA behavior supervisor Kayla Dorney spent every day with Bentley.

The more she got to learn about his personality, the more she began to fall in love with him.

She said he was the “best roommate ever.”

“When you work at a shelter, it can be really hard. He almost knew when you need that type of interaction,” Dorney told The Dodo.

After about 400 days at the shelter, they started to wonder why Bentley was still there.

They started featuring him on their social media pages every week and trying to envision his future.

It wasn’t until 1,076 days in the shelter that Bentley finally found his forever home with Britney and Doug.

When his new parents spotted him, they couldn’t get over the thought of him having to spend another night on the shelter floor.

So, they took him home.

It took a little while for Bentley to get used to living in a home. He had to learn what strange things like the beeping noise on the oven or what a rug was.

And Bentley sure did love that rug. He was doing barrel rolls all over it. When he first arrived.

While Bentley has adjusted to living in a house, he still has his quirks.

He loves to sit in armchairs like a human. He also loves to admire Christmas decorations.

Bentley’s new parents take great joy in making him happy each and every day.

“When he has that goofy grin, you can’t not also crack a smile,” Doug said.

Bentley also makes his new parents very happy and loves to give them lots of kisses.
