How do you unwind after a long day?
With a glass of wine? Sharing a meal with a loved one, perhaps? Or maybe you serenade your cat to sleep every night. Though that last one might sound a bit weird, it’s exactly what Sarper Duman does at the end of a long day.
Duman is a pianist from Istanbul, Turkey. When he’s not working on his music outside of the house, he is playing tunes for his most loyal fans: his nine rescue cats. That’s right – Duman lives with nine cats, all of which he rescued from the city streets. All of them were in bad shape and desperately needed help when Duman decided to take them in and get them the help they needed. One of the kitties is even blind.
Once Sarper created a home for his animals, he realized that they love to hear him play the piano.
While he’s at his keyboard, the cats will sit on his lap, gather around him, or even jump on the keyboard. While some people may not like that kind of distraction, Duman doesn’t mind at all. He’s clearly incredibly happy when he plays for the cats, as evidenced by the many videos he posts of his kitties during his performances.
One video, in particular, has taken the internet by storm. It is a video of Duman playing a classical piece on his keyboard while one of his cats, a brownish tabby, sits in his lap. The cat’s front paws are on the keyboard as it listens.
During the minute-long video, the cat is clearly pleased by the music, regularly rubbing its face against its owner’s chin while he plays.
Duman smiles lovingly at the animal, enjoying their bonding time.
It really seems as if the cat knows what is going on. It seems pacified by the music and starts to get a dreamy look on its face as drifts off to sleep. It’s truly a heartwarming scene that has inspired the internet to check out Duman’s other videos of his animals.
Duman doesn’t just post the videos to Instagram.
He also occasionally posts on YouTube, as well. These videos have started circulating the internet, and tens of thousands of people have now seen these posts. It inspires other to talk about their cats and other animals and how much they love music. While animals may not share our language, they can definitely understand the emotions and feelings that music evokes. When we can share those musical moments with our furry friends, it’s definitely something pretty special.
You may not know how to play the piano as well as Duman can, but that doesn’t have to stop you from sharing music with your animals. You can simply turn on your favorite tunes and jam out with your pets. No matter what kind of music you are into, if you show your pet how excited you are, it’s likely that they will join in on the fun. It’s a great way to bond with your pets in a novel sort of way and can help you become even closer to your furry friend.
Sarper Duman and his rescue cats show just how strong the bond between people and their pets can be.
Hopefully, he will continue to post his heart-warming videos on social media where other people can enjoy his musical interactions with his cats for years to come.
