Christmas… it’s the most wonderful of the year. And one that we all like to celebrate in our own unique way.

We all have our favorite Christmas songs, movies, decorations, and foods.

But humans aren’t the only ones that have their favorite Christmas traditions.

Apparently, pets do too.

At least that’s what Pets Add Life says.

They interviewed several pets to find out what their thoughts are about Christmas.

You might be surprised to find out that what pets love about Christmas are the very same things we love about Christmas.

One dog that was interviewed had not one, but two favorite Christmas foods: ham AND turkey.

Even just sniffing the air while those dishes are being cooked sends him into a happy frenzy.

Another dog says that he loves Christmas carols. He even played the piano and sang “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” Well… he tried to.

A chihuahua said that all she wanted for Christmas was a squeaky elephant.

But her brother kind of derailed that Christmas wish.

Another dog was trying to explain what his favorite Christmas toy was. He had to ask his mom to bring it to him.

Turns out… he already ate it. It was pretty obvious what the cat’s favorite Christmas pastime was.

Trimming the tree… with herself.

She loves to lie in the middle of the Christmas tree. You could probably relate to one of the last dogs that were interviewed.

His favorite thing about Christmas was unwrapping the presents.

He loves the noise that tissue paper makes.

He also likes to eat that tissue paper. So, it’s like two presents in one.

But before you get ready to celebrate the holiday with your pets, it’s important to be aware of some safety tips.

The holidays are a time to have guests over, which can be overwhelming to your pets.

Make sure to create a quiet space for them, like a room or a crate, where they can feel calm and safe.

You’ll also want to give them some toys to keep busy with. It’s also a good idea to let your guests know that you have pets so they can prepare themselves.

While it might be tempting to give your dog some table scraps, be sure that there aren’t any bones in those foods.

They can splinter and cause serious health problems. Also, make sure that dangerous foods don’t fall off the table where your pet can eat them.

These foods can include chocolate, coffee, citrus, foods with pits, and nuts. If there’s going to be a lot of food around, it’s best to keep the trash can secure, so your dog isn’t tempted to rummage through it, creating a mess and potentially getting sick.

When it comes to decorating, make sure your pets can chew on tree limbs or needles, that the water at the base of the tree is non-toxic or inaccessible, and that the tree can’t be climbed on or knocked over.

Once that’s out of the way, you and your pets can have yourselves a merry little Christmas.
