If there’s one thing dog owners will never feed their dogs, it’s chocolate.

It’s a big no-no for dogs to ingest chocolate because it can become very toxic for them.

Chocolates contain caffeine and theobromine, which dogs can hardly digest. Since their bodies are slow to digest these, they will reach a point where these chemicals become toxic.

It is advised that you take your dog to the vet right away in case they ingested chocolate.

If you take them to the vet right away, they would be given a vomit-inducing medicine because taking the chocolate out of their system is crucial.

More severe cases would mean attaching IV fluids and other medications to your dog.

One should not take chocolate toxicity lightly.

What’s least likely to happen is your dog will experience nausea and vomiting. But if the toxicity level is too high, it can cause tremors, seizures, internal bleeding, and heart attack.

Aside from chocolates, many other food items are not suitable for them.

Food like onion, garlic, chives, nuts, avocado, grapes, alcohol, and any food and drink with artificial sweetener.

But there’s one pet hospital that gives chocolates to dogs.

Don’t get them wrong; they’re not trying to harm the dog. After all, they have experts in their hospitals that can advise them against this. But why do they do so?

It’s a heartwarming project to give dogs one last sweet taste of Earth.

‘Goodbye Kisses’ was a project by Dr. Nicole Namie of the Smiths Station Animal Hospital.

Dr. Namie shared that they have a jar full of Hershey’s kisses as a parting gift to their euthanasia patients.

She said that it’s a little act that means so much for them, their patients, and their owners.

According to Dr. Namie, they did this long ago but with different food items.

She shared to FOX 13 that their staff usually have some candy bar or other food stashed somewhere to give their euthanasia appointments.

These are foods that are not recommended for dogs (like chocolates), but they’d be glad to offer them something special during their final moments.

They don’t just feed them chocolates; they also give dogs cheeseburgers or pizza.

The point is they give the dogs delicious food before they cross the rainbow bridge.

Dr. Namie said that it warms the hearts of dog owners, knowing that their little fur baby left the Earth with their hearts and stomachs full.

Their post about ‘Goodbye Kisses’ blew up on Facebook.

Pet hospitals often do pet euthanasia for dogs suffering from incurable diseases.

Usually, euthanasia is considered especially if the dog already stops eating and drink, and experiences extreme discomfort. The process is generally painless for dogs but can be emotionally painful for both pet and owner.

This is why the ‘Goodbye Kisses’ helped make saying goodbye a little (bitter)sweet.
