In times of trouble, sometimes a good samaritan will reach out to help. Sometimes, this person, who has nothing to gain from helping, will do everything they can to help a stranger.
A pet detective from Canada is the perfect example of this.
Lorie and Terry Traviss were on a road trip from Alberta, Canada to Memphis, TN.
The tourists were huge Elvis fans, and they were excited to spend their trip learning all about the musician. They also decided to take their four-year-old Yorkshire Terrier Dixie on the trip.
While the Travisses made a stop along the way to eat, tragedy struck. Thieves broke into their car and ran off with Dixie.
Instead of enjoying their road trip, the Travisses spent the next week in a motel room thinking of any way in which they could get Dixie back. The community in Memphis, TN, did all they could to try to help, but Dixie was nowhere to found.
It looked like that all hope was lost.
News agencies across America picked up the story, and they showed poor Lorie pleading for her dog back. The story went viral, and it attracted tons of attention.
One of the people who saw the story was a pet detective from Ontario.
Pet detective Gaynor Fletcher stumbled upon the couple’s story online and knew she had to help. So she called the couple and proceeded to do the most incredible thing.
She volunteered to help them find Dixie. Then, she quickly jumped into action.
Fletcher did her own investigation from her home in Ontario. She interviewed local Memphis officials and mapped out where the thieves could have taken Dixie. She was also able to push the police and obtain more security footage from outside the restaurant.
“If it was a homicide or a kidnapping, you would have looked at other cameras in the area,” Fletcher said in an interview.
Fletcher’s hard work quickly paid off. A week after Dixie went missing, Fletcher discovered what happened to her.
It appeared the person who stole Dixie had brought her to a convenience store. Then, someone had bought Dixie, not knowing that she already had a home. After the person who bought the dog learned where Dixie truly belonged, they brought her to the police.
Then, Dixie finally reunited with her beloved parents.
“It was just amazing,” Fletcher said.
Dixie and her parents were so happy to be reunited. Lorie cried while Dixie wagged her tail so hard her whole body shook. It was clear these two missed each other and loved each other so much.
