We all love to take photos of our beloved cats and then post them on social media. These adorable photos get likes, reactions, shares, and comments from the online community.

People who love social media do not seem to cease even a bit, especially during these times when most of us are on home quarantine.

One post, however, gained far more traction than expected.

Just a few weeks ago, a cat photo made quite a stir on the internet.

The “freaky” photo was uploaded by Reddit user i_spin_bubbles and soon gained different reactions from a lot of people.

They can’t seem to figure out what “exactly” the image was. Quite interesting, isn’t it?

“one head in one head out. cat complete”

That’s exactly how i_spin_bubbles captioned the cat photo. It sparked quite a lot of discussion among people, everyone trying to figure out if it’s somehow edited or just an excellently timed image.

At first glance, you will see an image of a cat’s side while there’s a cat’s head coming out from a basket. It looks like a brutal scene from a creepy horror movie or tv show.

Is that cat missing its head while the other one is missing its body?

Can you quite figure it out? Do not worry if not because you are not alone scratching your head while staring at the photo.

The image is i_spin_bubbles’s cats named Koda and Lilly and the good news is that no one’s missing anything.

(Update) I’m happy to provide proof that both heads are still attached from r/aww

Koda’s head is not separated from his body and Lilly’s body isn’t missing its head. Both cats are safe and unharmed, and the image is just perfectly timed when it was taken.

Turns out, Koda and Lilly are the best of cat friends. They do almost everything together, whether it’s cuddle time or play-fight time.

“[Koda’s] always sneaking up from behind and uses all his body weight to play fight. Lilly loves playing with everything she finds, especially playing fetch. She’s only 8 months old and literally half Koda’s size and weight, but plays rough with him all the time,” i_spin_bubbles told The Dodo.

The image somehow became an optical illusion and played tricks on people’s minds.

You may have seen a lot of images like this one.

An image that will make you blink and think at the same time. How are these images so successful in confusing not only our eyes but more particularly our minds?

According to Very Well Mind:

“What is an optical illusion? Optical illusions, more appropriately known as visual illusions, involves visual deception. Due to the arrangement of images, the effect of colors, the impact of light source or other variables, a wide range of misleading visual effects can be seen.”

Not everyone processes these images the same way.

“If you’ve ever struggled to see the hidden image in a single-image stereogram, you may have discovered that not everyone experiences visual illusions in the same way. For some illusions, some people simply are not able to see the effect.

These images are bound to make our brains think.

“While optical illusions can be fun and interesting, they also reveal a great deal about the working of the brain.”

They were just playing when he accidentally captured the mind-boggling photo.

According to i_spin_bubbles, when he took the photo, Koda and Lilly were just playing with one of their favorite toys, a packing ribbon.

Soon, he realized that the image was quite interesting and decided to upload it on his Reddit account to see how the people would interpret the image.

We’re just glad all is well with the cats. Maybe next time, just no more scary photos like this one.
