Out in the wild, pandas are solitary creatures who prefer to roam by themselves. But that doesn’t mean that they’re opposed to socializing- as this video below proves!
In fact, pandas can actually be the opposite of anti-social, and you might find it hard to get a panda to leave you alone.
Giant panda conservation began in China back in the 1940s, as a way to protect the species after their numbers fell on a steep decline. The conservatories are set up to mirror a panda’s natural habitat, with lots of plants, trees and things to climb on, as well as tasty treats like bamboo stalks for the pandas to eat.
In one particular conservatory in China, one of the workers had the task of arranging bamboo stalks inside the pandas’ pens for their food. But as he set to work, he was immediately slowed down by one particularly clingy panda.
The man was dragging a few stalks across the enclosure when the panda cub first approached him. The sweet little guy clung onto his feet and refused to let go, resulting in the man having to limp around as the panda enjoyed a free ride on his leg.
In the video, you can see the clingy panda persistently following his nanny around during the whole time he’s in the enclosure. Even the man’s attempts of leaving the panda on an elevated spot didn’t work, as the needy little guy would simply hop down and run back towards the man.
The hilarious video continues with the man placing the panda on higher and higher ground – but he always finds a way back to his beloved nanny! In the end, thanks to the panda cub, the man’s work takes double the time that it was meant to do.
Naturally, a video like this was bound to do well on the internet.
After iPanda shared the clip on their YouTube channel, it wasn’t long before over 20 million people had viewed it. Many people expressed their jealousy over the nanny’s job – and we have to agree! Cuddling up with pandas all day sounds like our dream job.
“I wouldn’t be able to do this job. I’d just sit there hugging the pandas rather than doing work,” one person said.
“I’d never skip a work day in my entire life if this were my job, they’d literally have to drag me kicking and screaming to go home or take a vacation,” another added.
Someone else praised the patience of the panda’s nanny, joking:
“I love how the caretaker keeps picking up the panda and putting it away from him knowing fully well that its just gonna keep coming back.”
