According to current statistics, close to 70 percent of all households in the United States have at least one dog. That’s a lot of pups. But here’s the cool thing. Among dog owners, roughly 95 percent of them consider their pets to be part of the family.
Most people who have dogs love them just as they would a child. That means they’re pampered, cuddled, and spoiled rotten. So, when a story about a man who no longer wants his dog circulates on the internet, it’s heartbreaking.
Regular appointments
As for regular checkups, all dog breeds need to see a vet for vaccinations, as well as issues that arise. Otherwise, these animals are at risk for a host of problems, some that could prove deadly like Heartworm disease. It’s all about being a responsible owner.
Loving our pets
Animals provide so much to humans. They’re companions, friends, and even protectors. When properly cared for, they’ll go to the end of the earth and back just to please their humans. Sadly, people fail dogs all too often.
A trip to the vet
One man scheduled an appointment to have his dog see a vet. This gorgeous yellow pup was super scared when she arrived, which isn’t all that uncommon. But the staff noticed she was more nervous than others.
Not a standard checkup
While there, another man witnessed the interaction between the owner and the staff. He heard the owner say he brought his dog in to have her euthanized. Somewhat shocked, this man wanted to find out more about the situation.
Speaking with the owner
So, he talked to the dog’s owner, who he discovered was an avid hunter. Initially, he didn’t say why he wanted to have his pup put to sleep. But immediately, the man told the owner he’d take her.
She was sick
Even after the owner finally told the man the pup was sick, he didn’t care. He wanted her anyway. So, he took this girl with him from the vet’s office. After arriving home, it didn’t take long before he realized that she was in fact, very sick.
Giving her a name
The first thing the man did was call her Moira, which in Greek, translates “destiny.” This dog’s new owner was going to do everything in his power to get her well. But then he ran into another obstacle.
Moira was terrified of people
He had no idea how this dog was treated by the previous owner but something bad must’ve happened because she was afraid of people. While trying to take her for a walk, she ran under a car and refused to budge.
Going through therapy
Moira’s owner put her through therapy and within just a couple of weeks, she started to look better and had developed a hearty appetite. Not only that, but she began to trust him along with other people. In just a short amount of time, she’d come a long way.
Complete transformation
After having Moira for a few months, she had turned into a completely different dog. She put on weight and became a very loving and trusting pup. Today, she has a huge fenced outdoor area where she can run around and play.
Today, Moira is a beautiful, healthy dog that’s so grateful for her new owner. This dog didn’t need to be euthanized. Instead, she just required some therapy, a good diet, and lots of love. You can learn more about her story by clicking on the video below.
