Pets are just like family, and many of us would risk our lives if it means saving their own.
So when one man’s dog got caught up in the middle of a dangerous flood, he didn’t even think twice before diving into the gushing waters to try and save him.
The man’s heroic actions were caught on camera and shared onto YouTube and news stations all over the world. It makes for tense watching- but luckily everything ends well.
The flood happened after heavy rainfalls caused the Sinai River to overflow in San Miguelito, Panama.
In the video, you can see water flowing quickly down the street. It’s a dangerous situation for anyone to be in- but for a little dog, the situation instantly becomes more dire.
The dog in question is a white pit bull, and he seems to be in a confused state as he walks dangerously close to the gushing water. Maybe he’s trying to get towards the people on the other side, or perhaps he’s just become disorientated.
For whatever reason, the dog beings to attempt to walk through the rushing water- and gets pulled under in an instant.
It’s a distressing moment for everyone. The men on the other side of the flood have been shouting to the dog to try and get him to turn back. Now that he’s been pulled under, it seems like it’s too late for the poor dog.
Or maybe it isn’t!
The dog’s owner, 35-year-old Manuel Calderon, has watched the whole situation unfold before his eyes. Less than a second after his dog, who is named Fulo, falls into the water, he’s already at the water’s edge himself.
In a moment of heroic bravery, Manuel- who works as a vegetable seller- dives headfirst into the water!
Thankfully, Manuel was able to catch up with Fulo and take him to safety. The whole thing would have ended differently if it hasn’t have been for his sheer courage.
After the video was released, the full story came out. Locals explained that Manuel had crossed the river and was waiting for Fulo to follow him.
But the surge of the current ended up being too strong for Fulo, who was instantly dragged underwater.
It’s amazing that Manuel was willing to risk his own life in order to save his dog’s.
“I was focused on the dog. And thank God I managed to grab him,” he told reporters. “Some meters later, I threw him onto the bank and got out.”
The risks hadn’t even crossed Manuel’s mind. He just wanted to save his pet.
Fulo may be ‘just a dog’, but Manuel sees animals as equal to humans. As they should be!
“An animal, just for being an animal, does not deserve to be disregarded, because it is a life after all. I ask you to take care of them because they also have feelings.”
