Shane Godfrey, a guy from Sanford, had spent a lot of time in the hospital—five weeks to be exact.
When he heard that he needs to be admitted, his immediate concern was having to leave his best buddy, a dog named Willie.
They have always been inseparable.
To Shane’s delight, his loving friends and family stepped in to take care of the little pooch while he was away. Being separated from Willie gave him even more reasons to regain his health back.
Meanwhile, in the hospital, Shane had to fight flu complications. In fact, he almost didn’t make it at one point. He almost died.
But he wasn’t the one to give up easily.
Thankfully, he managed to pull through after a 5-week-long battle. And of course, the first thing he wanted to do was reunite with his beloved canine.
When he eventually returned home after a long absence, his dog didn’t know who he was. The dog realized something wasn’t right when he initially saw Shane because of the obvious bewilderment on his face.
Willie was utterly confused.
Although he couldn’t identify the person’s face, he could definitely identify the voice. Dogs are incredibly witty. Hence, the smart dog continued his investigation.
He would have recognized that every human’s behavior pointed to the man sitting on the bench, so he was interested to learn why, and all it needed was a quick sniff to finally unveil the truth.
He immediately recognized Shane’s scent.
Willie only needed to give the man seated in front of him a quick sniff before he instantly recognized him. The moment of recognition is evident.
Willie really loses it as he discovers that he is finally going to be with his owner again after all this time. Willie greets his dad by giving him plenty of hugs, kisses, frenzied hopping, and joyful running. His body is shaking from how vigorously his tail was wagging.
His happiness was indescribable.
Since Shane was undoubtedly concerned that Willie would never recognize him again, that moment gave him a huge deal of relief.
Ever since the video was posted, it has garnered an enormous amount of attention for people online. They were just as impressed and touched by how the dog was able to identify his best friend just by smelling him.
Contrary to what you might think, Shane only had Willie for about a year when the video was taken. The pooch just showed up on his front porch and he immediately fell in love… and the rest is history.
“I never get tired of seeing that instant change in mood when the dog realizes it’s his owner. Just in the blink of an eye, he goes from scared and hesitant to excited and playful. That’s true love right there,” one commenter wrote.
Another one posted, “What a beautiful thing, man. The second that dog knew it was you, he could no longer contain that excitement. Dogs are the best.”
Dogs truly are smart and loving creatures. When you love them enough, they give it back hundredfolds.
