In life, things are never predictable. Oftentimes, we think we’re prepared for whatever may happen, but chance has a way of knocking us off our feet. For the most part, though, unexpected changes bring new opportunities. Whether in the form of an amazing job offer, a sudden move, or a new relationship— life always has a way of surprising us.
One day, Bridget Kelley’s life took an unexpected turn when she met a tiny, abandoned kitten named Ollie.
In an imgur post from 2016, Bridget (who goes by CaliCatlady101 on the website) explained, “Ollie was brought to me at one day old, after having been found abandoned at a local grocery.”
Ollie was completely vulnerable and defenseless. Bridget had originally planned to foster him until he was old enough to be adopted, but the teeny white kitten soon wormed his way right next to her heart (literally).
It turns out Ollie was surprisingly healthy considering everything he had been through. Still, with his size and age, Bridget knew she had a long road ahead of her.
Bridget had to figure out to provide round-the-clock care to Ollie while still continuing her duties of day-to-day life. She quickly discovered an adorable way of soothing the little guy.
“I would make a ‘purrito’ by wrapping Ollie in a small towel and tucking him in my shirt,” she wrote. “He couldn’t purr yet, but look at that happy look on his sweet little face.”
Ollie quickly discovered napping was his favorite activity— closely followed by gorging himself on yummy bottles of formula.
Things were going relatively smoothly, but there was one scary night when Ollie had to be admitted to the emergency animal hospital for dehydration. Luckily, after a quick treatment and “a couple of medications”, the brave kitten was right back to new.
Right around the two-week mark, Ollie’s eyes opened. It was the first time he was able to see Bridget, the woman who had given him such love and care.
Not only had Ollie’s eyes opened, though— it also seemed he had hit the “most likely going to make it” mark.
Even though Ollie was growing bigger and healthier, his favorite napping spot was still right beside mom’s heart.
“When I had dishes to do, reports to type up, laundry to fold, etc… Ollie would be tucked into his favorite spot and keep me company!”
She admits, “He wasn’t always the best motivator when it came to chores, but he was darn cute company.”
Ollie was enamored with his new mommy.
Bridget wrote, “He would cry, and cry, and CRY if he heard people outside of the room he was kept in. I made sure it wasn’t due to hunger. Sure enough, he’d reject the bottle and just chill on me instead.”
By two months, Ollie had grown much too big to sleep in Bridget’s shirts. So he made the next most logical progression— shoulders!
Right around this time, Bridget got an e-mail from someone asking if she would take a 3-week-old kitten. That’s when Ollie met his brand-new foster brother Ryder.
Although Ryder eventually found a loving, forever home, he and Ollie were best friends until his departure. Nowadays, Ollie has grown from a tiny, abandoned kitten into a beautiful, white cat. Bridget stated,”Raising a kitten from literal day one is a very trying but rewarding task,” though in the end, it was all worth it.
“He is one of the sweetest kitties I have ever known.”
