There exists in Arkansas a serene neighborhood where the only disturbance is the occasional chirping of birds.
But on this particular day, the chirping was replaced by the clucking of a rogue chicken.
The calm was shattered by the hilarious antics of a police officer in hot pursuit.
It all began when Tia Dulaney, a resident of Jonesboro, found an unexpected visitor on her front porch.
A chicken, seemingly enjoying its newfound territory, had decided to make itself at home.
Tia, unsure of how to handle the situation, did what any of us would do: she called the police.
Enter Officer Nathan Swindle of the Jonesboro Police Department.
With his trusty body camera rolling, he approached the scene, expecting a routine call.
Little did he know, he was about to star in what could easily be dubbed the most entertaining episode of “COPS” ever.
“I was trying to shoo it off a little bit and it took off and so I was like, ‘Man, I gotta catch it,’ and so I immediately started running,” Swindle shared with KAIT-TV.
And run he did.
For over four minutes, Officer Swindle chased the chicken through the apartment building’s parking lot, creating a spectacle that had onlookers in splits.
The video footage, which has since gone viral, showcases the officer’s determination (and perhaps lack of poultry-catching skills).
The chicken, clearly having the time of its life, dodges and weaves, leading Swindle on a merry dance.
Chasing chickens isn’t for the faint of heart.
The Jonesboro Police Department, seeing the humor in the situation, shared photos and the body camera footage on their Facebook page.
The video, “CHICKEN RUN: Police chase down fugitive fowl,” has thousands of views and laughs.
As for Officer Swindle, this chase has earned him a new nickname among his colleagues.
“Rooster,” they now teasingly call him, a moniker he’ll likely never live down.
While the chicken’s motivations remain a mystery, it wasn’t all for naught.
It provided the residents of Jonesboro with a day they’ll never forget.
And for us viewers? A hearty laugh and a reminder that sometimes, life’s most amusing moments come from the most unexpected places.
So, the next time you hear a cluck or see a feathered friend strutting around, remember the great Jonesboro chicken chase.
And maybe, just maybe, cue the “COPS” theme song for added effect.
