In our world, there are all types of animals.
Some are big and some are small, but they all have one thing in common.
They are all living, breathing creatures that need care and attention.
Kindness goes a long way.
Whether it’s an elephant or a hamster, we have an obligation to treat them with kindness, because being kind makes the world better for everyone involved.
Being nice doesn’t just mean talking nicely. Sometimes, it means taking action, too.
That’s what this cop did.
Animals tend to have a lot of babies in the spring, and this past spring in Florida was no exception.
Officer Bailey of the Lakeland Police Department in Lakeland, Florida, observed a mother duck frantically escorting her dozen ducklings along the street.
He decided to take action.
Officer Bailey pulled his police vehicle onto the road to halt traffic because he was worried about the mother duck and her youngsters.
By doing this, he made sure they wouldn’t be hurt.
“Since they were in the middle of the street, Officer Bailey pulled his patrol car behind the family to ensure they would safely make it down the street,” the Lakeland PD captioned on Facebook.
Officer Bailey went above and beyond.
Even just stopping the flow of traffic was already a great act on its own.
Officer Bailey, however, went a step beyond to see it through.
To make sure the adorable mother duck and her brood arrived at their destination safely, he decided to pull over, get out of his patrol car, and walk beside them.
Naturally, the family of ducks took a few detours on their path to the pond.
As ducks frequently do, they wandered- including crossing railroad tracks, ascending steps, passing through parking lots, and crossing roadways.
Officer Bailey followed faithfully.
Until they arrived at the pond and dove into the refreshing water one by one, the officer followed and protected the ducks.
Officer Bailey went back to his job just after the duck family was peacefully swimming in Lake Mirror.
This may seem like such a small act of kindness, but how many people would really stop what they’re doing and spend their time protecting helpless ducks?
His patience is admirable.
Due to the officer’s heartwarming deed, the video easily went viral and people were quick to share their thoughts.
“This is the most wholesome thing I have seen in a while,” one commenter posted. “That man is a superhero he deserves a raise.”
Another one wrote, “This had me smiling! Looks like the cop got exhausted after walking so far, but he pushed on coz he wanted to make sure the duckies can get home safely. Thank you for going out of your way, sir!”
High salute to Officer Bailey for being a great example of how to be kind, even to wild animals.
