For thousands of years, dogs have been more than just pets to humans.

They’ve been our loyal companions, trusted hunting partners, and fearless protectors.

This bond between humans and dogs dates back over 12,000 years, proving just how deep and enduring this relationship is.

Among these canine companions, some are exceptionally talented and suited for roles beyond the ordinary.

These are the police dogs, also known as K-9s. Not every dog breed is cut out for this job.

It’s usually the German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, and Bloodhounds that take on these critical roles, trained specifically to assist police in tasks like apprehension, detection, and search and rescue.

One remarkable example of these heroic dogs is Dexter, a 16-year-old K-9 who has just hung up his leash after a commendable career.

Dexter spent the last two years serving at the Pennsbro Police Department in West Virginia.

His handler, Chief Travis Snuffer, has been by his side for an impressive 12 years, forming an unbreakable bond.
