In animal shelters, it’s sadly very common for puppies to get adopted quickly while older dogs wait for months or years to find their forever home. Sometimes, though, some people will go to an animal shelter specifically to adopt an older dog. They know they may only get a few years with the pup, but they want to make those years the best years of the dog’s life.

This was the case with a group of sisters from Our Lady of Christian Doctrine. These kindhearted nuns went into High Tor Animal Shelter in New York determined to adopt an older dog.

The nuns had had a dog for years, but sadly, he passed away from old age. A week after they lost their beloved dog, the nuns decided they wanted to adopt another dog and give them a good life. They headed over to High Tor Animal Shelter and asked to see their older dogs.

“I purposely wanted a dog that nobody else wanted. I wanted to bring a dog home that might get euthanized if we didn’t take her,” Sister Veronica Mendez told News 12.

The shelter workers introduced the nuns to a nine-year-old pit bull name Remy. Remy had been at the shelter for months, and she desperately wanted a home of her own.

As soon as the nuns saw Remy, they knew she was the right choice for them.

“She was very friendly right away, and she just seemed like she belonged. She’s a gentle dog and friendly,” Sister Virginia Johnson told News 12 Hudson Valley.

Remy quickly adjusted to life with the sisters, and she’s now happy as can be. She spends her days cuddling with the nuns or napping on her dog bed. The sisters love having her in their home.
