A dog owner’s heartbreak

Once upon a time, there was a woman named Greta who had experienced the heart-wrenching loss of her beloved dog a few years ago. The pain was so intense that she was advised to take some time to heal before considering adopting another furry companion.

Greta took this advice to heart and patiently waited, allowing herself to gradually mend her broken heart. It wasn’t until last year that she found herself captivated by a dog with the most enchanting pair of eyes.

Time to be happy again

This dog, whom she named Duncan, had been taken in by an animal shelter as a stray. Rumors circulated that he might have had a previous owner who wasn’t particularly kind to animals. However, Greta paid no heed to Duncan’s past and decided to bring him home, believing that their fateful encounter was meant to be.

As the days went by, Greta discovered that Duncan was a dog unlike any she had known before. Some might say he wasn’t the brightest canine, but his peculiarities only made him more endearing. He had a peculiar habit of devouring rain and snow, and while he despised swimming pools, he delighted in playing with water in other ways.

In fact, one online viewer was able to relate to Greta and Duncan’s story.

“This story really resonates with me. I got my current dog to heal from the loss of my all time fav dog. She is strange in that she eats wind snow rain. She’s quirky and that’s new for me. I’ve gone from a pedigree dog to a farm like dog and it has saved my life. She makes me be the best human I can be and my healing is great,” the viewer wrote in the comments.

Surprisingly, Duncan wasn’t particularly fond of other dogs, yet he adored being in the company of people. Greta also had a cherished cat that had lived for an impressive 22 years before passing away. Duncan mourned the loss and sought solace by curling up in the bathtub.

However, fate had more in store for Duncan. Greta’s family decided to welcome another feline into their home, a cat named Coco Bubbles. From the moment they met, Coco Bubbles became Duncan’s best friend. They respected each other’s boundaries and never quarreled over toys. Snuggling and sleeping together became their favorite pastime.

They became inseparable companions, embarking on countless adventures together. Coco Bubbles was undeniably Duncan’s cat, and the bond they shared was unbreakable. They wouldn’t have had it any other way.

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or ASPCA, each year, there are approximately 6.3 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters. To sum it up, approximately 3.1 million of that number are dogs and 3.2 million are cats.

Sadly, approximately 920,000 shelter animals are euthanized (390,000 dogs and 530,000 cats) each year.

Cutting down that number, approximately 4.1 million shelter animals are being adopted each year (2 million dogs and 2.1 million cats). Moreover, about 810,000 animals who enter animal shelters as strays are returned to their owners. Of those, 710,000 are dogs and 100,000 are cats.
