Many modern-day newborn puppies go from their mother’s womb to an indoor location.
They require lots of care in a clean and warm environment.
According to The Nest, puppies don’t usually go outside to use the bathroom without mom until they are about 4-weeks-old.
This is often their first glimpse into the outside world.
So, naturally, they are cautious about what they see.
After all, they don’t know what anything is, what it feels like, or what it does.
And what are those scary sounds all about?
That’s why some dogs are naturally wary of the grass when they take their first steps outside.
A video on Angel Arroyo’s YouTube page shows this in action when a litter of about 10 dark-colored puppies are brought outside for the first time.
The puppies were placed in a large plastic bin and carried outside.
That bin was placed on the grass and tipped on its side to encourage the puppies to spill out of the bin on their own.
But that didn’t exactly happen. These adorable little pups were too afraid.
They all leaned back into the corners of the bin while a few brave pup leaned over to sniff out the grass. But after a few sniffs, they refused to budge.
“Look at the faces on them!” mom said off-camera.
They weren’t having it. They wanted to stay put in that bin where they knew they were safe. But they’d give it a try for their mom.
“Come on guys,” she coaxed.
So, they ventured and started sniffing again after she called them with a kissing noise. Still, none were brave enough to take their first steps.
“They don’t know what to make of it,” a man said off-camera.
And they didn’t! You can tell by the look on one of their faces that looks like they’re saying, “Mom, what the heck is this stuff?”
The only surfaces they’re probably used to were flat and dry or fuzzy.
But this grass stuff is cold, wet, bumpy, soft, and hard. And there’s other stuff on top of it too. With a little bit more coaxing the pups began to get a little bit braver. Finally, one took a few steps out of the bin.
They didn’t go far. They were just testing the waters. Then another dog followed.
Then those dogs got even braver and started walking around the bin.
It was time for them to explore this outside world. Eventually, the other dogs saw that the other puppies had ventured out and survived.
So, they figured it was time for them to give it a try too. One by one the little pups began touching a toe to the grass.
And it looked like they were having a lot of fun as soon as they did. This grass stuff wasn’t so scary after all.
By the end of the video, a few more of them still need some convincing and were taking their time getting out of the bin. More than 21,000 people ended up watching the brave journey of these brave pups. Check it out in the video below.
