If you love dogs but aren’t (or can’t be) a dog owner, you likely know the feeling of wishing you could borrow someone else’s pup for just a bit.
That’s how Jack McCrossan and his three roommates felt when they saw a neighbor’s sweet pup. The men live in a building that doesn’t allow pets, but they were dying to play with the sweet black sheprador in the neighborhood named Stevie Ticks.
Her owners described Stevie’s backstory in an interview with Bored Panda:
“She’s a 2.5-year-old sheprador. Originally from Cyprus. She was hit by a car, had surgery and was then flown to a shelter in the UK where she was swiftly rescued by me and Sarah. She loves playing tug, chasing birds and licking feet.”
The 4 men reached out to the dog’s owners, Chris and Sarah, asking if they could play with Stevie and take her for walks every now and then. And they received a reply from Stevie Ticks herself.
The sweet response has been going viral on Twitter for just a few weeks but hundreds of thousands have already seen the story.
McCrossan began by tweeting their initial request to the neighbors.
Here’s a photo of the letter they wrote to Chris and Sarah politely inquiring about a doggie date:
As you can see, “the boys” really just wanted an excuse to have some time with a pet since they had all grown up with animals but couldn’t get one of their own.
And they were lucky enough to get a letter from Stevie saying she’d love to oblige. Here’s what they found in the mail one day:

And it turns out Stevie was thrilled to accept their request for a playdate!
“We were ecstatic at the response and couldn’t wait to walk her,” McCrossan told Bored Panda. “Once we saw the paw print on the envelope we knew it was good news!”

Not only is this dog polite but her penmanship is impeccable!
Stevie stated her demands for friendship and asked “the boys” to get in contact with her “servant” Chris via WhatsApp. And the rest is history.
According to Chris, there have been multiple playdates and everyone is getting along fabulously:
“Stevie has met up with ‘the boys’ twice now. One brief introduction and then she went to play at the local park together. More adventures in the future I’m sure! They got on so well. Stevie is super friendly all the time, and had always loved meeting new folks,” he told Bored Panda.
One of the reasons the owners were happy to “loan out” their dog is their belief in the importance of creating a “positive, friendly, and approachable community” and being good neighbors. And they hope to inspire even more good doggie deeds.
“…if we can share the love a dog gives all the time we should try to follow in her footsteps. We’ve been amazed at the positive response we’ve received from around the world. It’s inspired other people to make contact with their neighbors and share their dogs.”
The post has now been liked over half a million times and is no doubt inspiring more people to ask about giving their neighbors’ dogs some more playtime.
