Have you ever wondered what would be the best job in the entire world? Well, we’ve got the answer for you: being a panda nanny! Indeed, strange as it may sound, pandas do have nannies, or keepers who practically babysit them when they are still too young to be independent.

In case you don’t know, panda cubs are born teeny tiny, pink, and hairless, and they rely 100% on their mother for safety, warmth, and food.

As if the above was not enough, panda cubs are also born blind, and they are not fully developed physically either.

That’s why they need nannies when they live in zoos or sanctuaries, in order to make sure they are safe and growing up normally.

Being a panda nanny comes with many benefits, the most important of which being that you get the opportunity to be around black-and-white fluffballs the whole day.

And, as if this was not tempting enough, you even get the chance to teach them stuff, like how to walk, for example.

Walking is an important skill pandas need to master, as is climbing.

At five months old, panda cubs start getting more independent, and they leave their dens for the first time. It is at that point that they learn to walk, climb, and eat solids.

And while in the wild panda cubs have to learn everything on their own, when living among people, they have someone to help them.

In this case, it is the nanny’s role to encourage the cubs to walk on their own, and the connection that develops between the baby panda and the human that looks after it is amazing.

In the video below, you can see Zhen Xi, who was born in Chengdu, Sichuan province, trying to take her first steps.

Well, she’s not really trying, it’s her nannies that are trying to encourage her and boost her confidence in order to walk independently one day.

As you can see, the panda is lying on the floor, not showing any interest in walking. But her nanny knows that it’s time for her to take her first steps, so she’s trying to encourage her by talking to her, patting her head, and snapping her fingers.

The panda looks uninterested, and the nanny makes all kinds of sounds using her tongue or even snapping her fingers.

At some point, the panda takes one small step, but that’s pretty much it.

The nanny, who is obviously in love with the adorable creature, helps it lie on its back and starts rubbing its belly. Only moments later, another nanny comes in, and now it’s her turn to help Zhen Xi with her walking lesson.

The nanny patiently claps her hands while she talks to the baby panda non-stop.

At some point, the cub takes another step, and the nanny is so happy with her progress.

It seems that the lesson is over after a while. The panda is tired, and she deserves some patting on the head, some compliments, and an expression of love.

Sure enough, she receives all of that and much more! Now, it’s time to rest – she’ll have the chance to practice again later on.
