When it comes to animals with nurturing sides, mama dogs are usually where the internet’s attention goes to. Compared to cats, dogs really are more expressive of their emotions. As people, we love it when affection is reciprocated.
But that doesn’t mean cats can’t be just as sweet and nurturing too. Take a look at this.
Uploaded to channel LundKids, this mama cat is taking a liking to this puppy. It’s wrapped in a blanket to keep it warm. As is usually the case with puppies, there’s more than just one.
The family in this video is introducing this puppy to new faces. When you’ve just come into the world, it’s nice to be familiar with everyone around.
This puppy could be looking for its mom. But where exactly is mama dog?
Well, if there is one, she doesn’t seem to be nearby. She could be regaining her strength in another room for all we know.
There is a mama nearby though. She’s just not a dog.
A few frames later, we’re introduced to the family cat. She’s sitting in a box with some of her newborn kittens, and she seems particularly curious about the puppy.
So curious, in fact, that the girl holding the puppy let her take a closer look.
Though they were naturally cautious about introducing the newborn puppy to a cat.
But they might have underestimated just how welcoming this cat is. After some sniffing and inspecting, they lower the puppy in the box with her, and her two kittens.
And to their surprise, the cat was perfectly comfortable letting the puppy stay.
She wasn’t the slightest bit hostile or uneasy. Maybe a bit confused, but eventually warmed up to it.
“Warmed up to it” might even be understating. After observing the puppy, she decides it needs to be cared for by a mom. And she’s already looking after two kittens, so she might as well let this one join.
The puppy scrambles to find a spot. Mama cat now treats the stranger like one of her own, and adorably adjusts her body so they can all rest on her.
Now, two kittens and a puppy share the living space in mama’s cardboard box.
“Well, he’s one of mine now” the cat is probably thinking.
Cats playing mama to puppies isn’t as out of the ordinary as it may seem.
The same thing happened with this other cat from the news, Jada.
She hails from a home in Brookfield, Connecticut and also caught some attention for raising a Chihuahua puppy. It began when the puppy’s mom rejected it out of her weak physical state, and left the puppy with no motherly figure to bond with.
That’ where Jada stepped in.
She lost one of her own kittens when she was introduced to the puppy, whose name was Lazarus.
Jada took very, very good care of Lazarus. She nursed him with her own milk and treated him like one of her own kittens.
When these dogs grow up, they might take a while to realize just how different their moms are from them. As for the cats, I bet they’d be super proud to see their adopted children grow big and strong.
