Imagine driving down the road when you spot a mother dog acting strangely.
This is exactly what happened to some neighbors when they spotted a dog on the side of the road in their area. They immediately got on the phone to call for help.
The volunteers who showed up wanted to help the dog, but she began to act strangely and started to get aggressive like she was protecting something. After looking around for a bit, they realized that this was a mother, and she was trying to protect her tiny puppies.
The workers quickly spotted the poor little puppies hidden beneath an old truck and tucked behind some leaves and grass. They tried to get to them, but their mom made it difficult. She was understandably upset. She thought they were after her puppies!
Volunteers brave being bitten to save the puppies
The dog was going to protect her puppies at any cost, so it was no surprise that she was skeptical of the workers trying to help her. They tried to reassure her as they didn’t want to be bitten, but they knew they had to get to the puppies in order to protect them and save their lives.
Once the protective mother realized that they were there to help, she stood back a bit to see what they were going to do but kept a very worried and watchful eye on the proceedings.
The rescuers hoped she would calm down enough so that they could all be taken to the animal shelter together, and they looked for a leash in their car to make the process easier.
The fluffy little bundles were dirty, covered in mud and grime, and shivering from the cold. There were a total of five little fluff balls, all needing to be rescued and given a new home.
The rescue workers knew that the puppies might be sick and so there wasn’t a lot of time to get them to the shelter for a check-up. There was no telling how their mom would react when her puppies were taken, so the workers decided to take the puppies and then return for the mother dog on their next trip.
Reunited with mommy at last
The puppies were quickly transported to the shelter, where they were given a full medical check-up followed by a much-needed bath. They were healthy, clean, and happy, but they were missing their mom very much.
Two days later, the volunteers were finally able to locate and rescue the mother dog. They found her 15 miles away through a tip someone posted on Facebook. It turned out that she had been living out on the streets her entire life. After a long struggle, one of the rescue workers was finally able to catch her so that she could be reunited with her darling puppies.
Once back at the shelter the happy family was reunited; the look of content on the mom’s face is priceless. She looks so happy and content to have her puppies safe and by her side. Every day the new family is getting used to sheltered life and learning to trust humans to feed them and keep them safe.
The family will soon fly to New York to meet their new owners and find their forever homes.
