When a dog gets surgery, 9 times out of 10, they get a special device that keeps them from chewing themselves apart. That device has many names, but its actual name is the Elizabethan collar or Buster collar. Nobody cares to call it that, instead preferring “the cone of shame”!
Jenn Frates is from Sacramento, CA, and her golden retriever was required to wear the cone of shame.
When she found out her furry friend was going to be looking goofy for a little bit, she knew exactly what to do. Instead of letting it be “the cone of shame,” she decided to decorate it each day with a new design! The results ended up going viral and may have put a whole new meaning on what it means to wear the cone. Maybe she even created a new doggy-culture that puts cones in a positive light!

1. Finntini
This simple yet elegant design was inspired by a classic cocktail! Instead of the classic Martini, little Finn became a Finntini for the day. Too bad he couldn’t eat the olives.
2. DirectTV
Jenn wasn’t getting great reception on her DirectTV box and decided to give the signal a boost. Every time Finn goes outside, they get bonus access to an additional 500 channels. Too bad he only wants to watch Animal Planet!
3. *squeak, squeak, squeak*… JUMP
If you read that title in your mind, you just recreated the Pixar Animation intro with the little lampshade. Finn here is posed perfectly to represent his role in the upcoming film.
4. Side of fries
One of the best fast food combos is ice-cream and fries. It’s that combination of salty and sweet that makes it so delicious. Funny enough, this costume includes both cone AND fries!
5. Slam dunk!
The AirBud movies bring us back to the ’90s. What a time. AirFinn was repurposed for this photo, and we definitely think it’s a slam dunk.
6. Snowcone
Cone included, snow occasional. We all love a little snow cone action in the summer. The real question is if shaved ice is better than a snowcone!
7. Toucan Sam
Fruit Loops are some of the best cereal, don’t @ me. Toucan Sam may have some competition on his hands, though. Enter: Toucan Finn.
8. Gobble
The turkey is the star of the Thanksgiving season. When Finn and Jenn got their Thanksgiving themes BarkBox, they were inspired with this costume!
9. The Cone Awakens
This is a niche joke. If you are a Star Wars fan, you will definitely appreciate this one! It’s just perfect, even down to the intro crawl that is featured in every movie!
10. Failed attempt
Jenn tried to take off the cone for a test on day 10. Finn immediately went back to licking his wound. Looks like he will have to wait a bit longer still!
11. To inFinnity and beyond!
Who doesn’t love Toy Story? What great character development. Finn makes a great space ranger, don’t you think?
12. Pretty please?
You can see the question in Finn’s eyes here. “When is this thing going to be off me?” Well, Finn, it’s up to you! Although putting him in food-themed costumes probably doesn’t help with the licking problem.
13. A night in
They labeled it Pupcorn! If there is one thing a dog loves, it’s getting all their energy out and having a movie night in with the family. Finn should get all the extra cuddles because of his cone!
14. Game of Cones
The Game of Cones is a dangerous game. Power, treachery, and pain. Wait, don’t all those things apply to the vet, too? For a dog they do!
Conclusion
Jenn showed us that you can always turn a rough situation into a funny one. While Finn may not have loved it, we are sure he was handsomely rewarded for his efforts.
