Meet Kelvin and Joule: two animals who show that cats and dogs can get along!
The animals’ mom, Brenna Eckert, adopted her Vizsla pup Joule first. She immediately noticed that Joule had a lot of anxiety—when Brenna was home, Joule was constantly by her side. When Brenna was at work, Joule would get very anxious. Brenna took Joule to an animal therapist who helped her work through some of her issues, but the pup still had some anxiety.
Soon after Brenna got Joule, she decided to adopt another animal: a ginger cat named Kelvin.
When Brenna got home with Kelvin, she introduced him to Joule. At first, she was worried the animals wouldn’t get along, but it turned out she had nothing to worry about. The two immediately bonded.
Even though Joule and Kelvin seemed to get along, Brenna was a bit nervous about leaving them home alone while she was at work. And so, she decided to set up a security camera so she could monitor the situation.
Brenna was shocked when she watched the footage and saw what the cat and dog got up to when she wasn’t home!
When Brenna left, Joule hopped onto the couch and sat completely still. The dog’s ears were up in the air, and she licked her lips nervously. Kelvin seemed to notice how anxious the dog was, and so she climbed onto the pup’s lap and cuddled with her. Joule instantly relaxed with the cat by her side.
Every day was the same. Kelvin and Joule would cuddle for the entire eight hours Brenna was away at work.
“Kelvin’s personality is very mellow and sweet,” Brenna told The Dodo. “He loves sleeping and being warm, both of which he gets by snuggling up to Joule during the day.”
Brenna also explained that the two only cuddle when Brenna and her family aren’t home.
“They only snuggle with each other like this when we are not around. If we are home, Joule wants to be with us, so she basically ignores the cat.”
Brenna shared a video of her two pets snuggling on Reddit, and the video quickly went viral. Everyone loved seeing the way these two comforted each other while their humans were away. There was only one complaint on Reddit: the video was too short!
Brenna is so glad she set up the security camera—she loves knowing that her two pets have such an incredible bond and that they’re happy while she’s away at work. Without the camera, their bond would have remained a secret.
