Codie Hutton of Suffolk, East Anglia, has had a pet for nine years.
The young woman and the female springer spaniel, Maisie, have practically grown up together, and the dog has also been Codie’s best friend over the last three years.
These people just love the four-legged member of the Hutton family, and they can’t imagine life without her.
However, one November day, they had to suddenly come to terms with the fact that Maisie was gone forever.
You see, on November 5th, Codie was driving with her dog in the car, when she stopped to let the doggie walk for a moment because she was getting tired of the long trip.
But, right when Codie was preparing to put the choker lead around Maisie’s neck, a firework went off across the road out of the blue, which scared the life out of the dog.
“She just bolted. Straight out of the car,” Hutton later told East Anglian Daily Times.
Codie knows her dog very well, and she was pretty sure she’d go hide behind the bushes and chew on some sticks before returning to her human mom.
Only this time, it was different.
Time passed and, after hours without a sign from Maisie, Codie and her father started getting anxious about the family pet.
Things got worse when they received tips from people who had spotted her a long way from where the car was parked.
“Someone saw her get clipped by a car, which was a blessing in disguise as she wasn’t hurt and it altered her course away from the A12,” the woman said.
Hutton and her father spent the night where the dog had been last spotted, and they hoped to keep searching for Maisie in the morning.
But the next day they received the call they had been fearing.
It was someone telling them a dog-like creature had been found flattened. They believed it could be a dog and Codie was asked to take a look and conclude if it could be Maisie.
Although the vets that saw the animal’s body couldn’t find a microchip, the markings on its legs made the woman believe it was her dog.
So, she took the deceased animal home and buried it in their backyard. She even had to tell her 3-year-old son that Maisie was now a star in doggy Heaven.
A couple of days later, just as they were trying to come to terms with the fact that they’d never see their dog again, they received another call telling them a dog looking like Maisie had been spotted miles away from where they last saw her.
They even sent a picture. Although Hutton wanted to have hopes of getting Maisie back, she didn’t want to be disappointed if it turned out it wasn’t her dog.
She and her father drove to where Maisie was, and that was when they knew it was their Maisie.
The dog couldn’t stop wagging her tail and whimpering in mama’s arms.
It was definitely an emotional reunion and 3-year-old Tylen was also excited to get his best friend back!
As for the animal the family had buried in their yard? Turns out, it was likely a fox.
