When Doby was just a kitten, he was taken in by The Cat House On The Kings Sanctuary in California. The sanctuary quickly noticed that he was a bit different than other cats. He has a very mild case of cerebellar hypoplasia, and because of that, he’s a bit wobbly on his feet. But his most distinct feature is his cleft nose.

Doby quickly adjusted to life in the sanctuary, and he became particularly close with a blind cat.

When his friend was adopted, Doby suddenly became shyer and more reserved. The sanctuary realized the cat would do well in a foster home, and thankfully the perfect foster mom came along: Jacqueline Santiago, a member of the Friends for Life Rescue Network. She took Doby in and posted a photo to her Instagram page.

A woman named Jeanne saw the photo, and she immediately fell in love with Doby!

“I saw his little bat face and that was it,” Jeanne told The Dodo. “We didn’t know a lot about him at first, so we did our research on cerebellar hypoplasia and cleft palates to make sure our home was safe and accessible for him.”

Doby stayed with his foster family for a few months, getting healthier and stronger. Then, once he was ready, he went to his forever home.

Doby’s family loved having him in their home, and Doby loved being there too! He was a very affectionate cat who enjoyed spending time with his new parents.

“Doby is a happy, chirpy sweetheart,” Jeanne said. “He has so much love in his tiny little body. He sings to us in the morning when we wake up and chatters at us all the way to the food bowl. The bowl is always full, but he likes for one of us to stand with him while he eats.”

Doby’s parents love his cleft nose!

“We joke that Doby has a double snoot, so there is more snoot to boop,” Jeanne said.

Doby sometimes has trouble breathing because of his cleft nose, and he can get winded easily. He is also more at risk for upper respiratory infections. Luckily, he has two parents who love him more than anything and keep a close eye on him. If they ever notice any issues, they’ll take the cat right to the vet.

Doby absolutely loves his life—he loves playing with his two cat sisters, and he’s a big fan of cuddling up with his parents. Doby has no idea that he’s different than any other cat, and he’s simply busy living his best life! If you’d like to see more photos of Doby’s adventures, check out his Instagram page.
